hello Guys.

I have a question about the XXtreme 800 building regarding the gear.
- I installed the main gear with tail tranmission pulley and main shaft, all is running smooth
- I put the pinion on the motor, made few precise adustment so the pinion is at the correct height. The motor is free to rotate.
- Now when I put the motor in position and engage the pinion on the gear,it rotated extreeeemely roughtly... it is almost like if the pinion and the gear do not match each other. I tryed to put more or less backlash but it does not change anything. The pinion and gear are at the correct height (the gear has little vertical free play for that I gess).

I do not believe it is normal so what did I miss?

Any idea on this one please?

Thanks

Yannick

Is it me or this time the ground was higher than last time??

If this is with power on there is like a magnetic brake in the motor, it is normal. If it is with power off, I would loosen the pinion on the motor and spin the main gear to set the pinion where it belongs and then tighten the set screw, See if that makes it any better.

Ok so after a complete evening, I finally found the problem...

After adjusting, turning several turns where the head was really hard to turn, I realized that my motor wires were a bit warm, I then realized that all the motor plugs were touching each other, putting the motor in short cut...

Believe it or not but that made the head nearly impossible to turn!

Once I put all the wires apart from each other, the problem was solved and all is now really smooooth...

Good!

Is it me or this time the ground was higher than last time??

It's good you figured that out on your own...as I doubt anyone would have thought of that up front as a reason for the problem (-:

Gives you some respect for how much current and force those invisible magnetic fields can generate... it's amazing how quickly a Prius slows down just by turning the electric motors into generators.
