I've been reading about people on here doing this and saw alot of people run it with Beastx and Vbar. I also read about the raptor quick uk grips and mikado combo as well. Just wondering what is the best combination to use with a CGY-750? in term of swash driver and grips.

Good topic
Ive been toying around with putting the compass 6hv head on, direct link, no need to mess with swash driver. Don't know if it can handle 690/710 blades? I would think so 6hv swings 620 at some crazy head speed!

Ma to FBL
I don't know what model MA you are wanting to convert, but there is a guy who has a vid on Youtube, with an X-cell .60 NOBAR. It appears that it flies very smooth and docile. Its all MA, no other parts I can see.

There is much adjustment on the MA heads, so its relativly easy. If I had the mind to use a BeastX or whatever, I would fly it Nobar first, to get it where it flies good, then add the BeastX. That way the gyro won't be trying to fight an unstable or querky bird.

Were I going to do it, I would use the QUK Raptor grips. It should put the swash afr's in the ballpark for the desired range.

I used the FAI arms on a E Stratus. I tried it "Nobar" at the time. Have you looked at the M/A grips and arms for the Whiplash?
Or mabey just put the whole FBL rotorhead on it? MrMel converted one way back in the day using the Raptor grips. Either way should work as well but i'd rather keep it all M/A if i was doing it.
Just my 2 cents..

Let me clarify. I want to covert one of the older models from MA like extreme stratus spectra. Just doing my research before diving in. The quick UK grips seemed to be very popular but I like the idea of keeping it as much ma as possible without shelling out 300 clams for the head. And I also have a cgy to test. I wouldn't mind buying a vbar but only do it if necessary. And when I go to order the 10mm mikado swash driver it states that its for a bar setup. Is that just because they want to push the mikado product?

Dr Ben - The Afr ranges you r talking about. Is it the 50-64 range in the cgy? If so would a fai arms yield a undesirable range in the cgy? I've also read about the 1.5 to 1 ratio of the distance between the connections on the grips vs the distance of the swash ball linkS and apparently the fai arms yield this perfect ratio. Just wondering if this make my Afr Value s to be in range?

Chuck- can u post a picture of your head with the fai arms on here. I like to keep it all MA as well but haven't made up my mind yet.

Porche - anyway to find that video or what to search for on here.

Thanks for all the replies. Its great to have all my questions answered before making all the necessary purchase.

If you are using the extreme rotorhead the QUK grips and Mik swash driver is the way to go.. The Tempest rotorhead will work also. But if you don't have one already and have to buy one you might as well get the M/A FBL rotorhead or a 3rd party one.
I only have one pic of my old E Stratus but found some others to go with it.

This tread is nice might bring some life back to the old stratus, it had the tempest 3D head already. Conversion looks easy?

It kinda depends on the parts you have on hand. The FAI pitch arms are fairly far off the centerline of the head, so they might yield the desired throws. One thing I want you all to be aware of with the Tempest head grips is that if you get up to or beyond 2k on on headspeed with blades at or slightly exceeding 200 g that you will start to elongate the holes in the grips where the 3mm bolts attach them to the aluminum collar on the blade axle. On the QUK grips and of course the new MA grips, the spindle bolt carries the centrifugal loads exclusively. Based on what I know now, I would target your throws for 10+ d of cyclic at about 55-60% swashplate afr. Traditional suggestions of 8-9 d are inadequate.

I have a tempest 3d that I put the new ma fbl head on. I use with a ys 120 and a VBar. The machine is capable of any maneuver out there. I built the 3d from a new kit I found on eBay in June. Basically new construction.
I also have an older fury extreme with ys 80 that I used the tempest 3d head on. Switched the arms to the fai version and put longer balls on there. I have not finished setting up this machine but it should work, fine. I will try to get some pictures posted of the two setups.
