Not trying to hijack the thread, i had a broken tail story

I can remember years ago at an ohio funfly myself, mark fadely and kerry muncy (aka the Indyboyz) were on the flight line doing coordinated autos just screwin around at the end of the event. We'd land at our feet then take off together climb up and all hit hold at same time.. we had a crowd gatherin behind us , we were all laughing and just screwing off... it was the windiest funfly i had ever been to..

On one of the climbouts at the top i threw mine knife edge and started piro'ing at lightspeed... I always piro'd to the left and did all my piroflips and other moves with left rudder... well in this knifedge ripper the tail case just launched off the heli... it was comical looking like a solid rocket booster being seperated from the space shuttle...the whole crowd goes OOOOOOOOO...

My then boss, bill scott, and fellow flyer was standing next to me and said throttle hold dave, throttle hold... cause the piros were realllllly getting so fast now that i thought the heli was going to make a time jump into the future lol, not to mention its still on its side falling..

Chris yingling was on a cell phone in the group behind us and saying to someone on the other end something along the lines of "thats going to be a rekit"...I hit hold and just started doing my normal piro flip routine to the point i got the heli upright again... I could hear Chris on the phone going "WAIT a minute, he's gonna save it!"...
Once i had it leveled out the piros finally slowed and stopped and i just auto'd it down to the cornfield way out cause it was to windy to attempt bringing it closer.. As it touched down the crowd erupted into cheers like i had just scored a winning touchdown at a superbowl lol... it was awesome, i felt like a rock start hahha...

the whole group walked out with me and the heli landed not 25 feet from the tail case... It was an xcell and the single screw that screws the tailbox to the boom had ripped through the carbon fiber tube which is the day i started double screwing those tails to the boom..

Adding to the hijack...

I've landed the heli autorotating 3 times by instinct, without having any visual contact with it. I mean, one was the engine quit and I landed the heli far away and I found it resting on a little grass land, the one you find between highways.

The second one was I had to land it far away in a valley below our flight place level.

And the third was I landed the heli beyond a tree wall that was between the heli and me.

Do this makes me a pro? I guess not, LOL. But they are great memories of the hobby.

No video on this story but it was a pretty lucky day for me.

My first full build was a Hirobo evo 50 hpm. For what ever reason I decided not to use CA on the plastic swash as recommended.

I was at the field with one other guy a planker, by the way this guy loves carnage.

Anyway I was flying straight and level from east to west down the middle of the field. All of the sudden the heli does a back flip at full speed, amazingly I kept pretty calm for a newb. I had no elevator control and was stuck inverted. I brought it down to about 10 feet and hit throttle hold and settled it in at about two feet until the blade speed bled off and it land inverted.

I picked it off the ground took it to the bench and found I had no damage other than the swash ball being pulled out on the elevator seesaw.
