Here's my 1st attempt in the quad heli's. I bought this here on RR last week. I just got it together. I still need to get the Naza controller w/GPS and BEC w/LED for it. I also just bought a GoPro Hero2 for it.

What is the best way to go for lipo, 3S or 4S?

Also I am seeing people with the stock blades failing. Will the Groupner blades be a better choice or is there a better choice? I don't need anything going wrong with it. I'm the worst thing that can happen to it!!! Hehehe.

I want to order sexy legs, Rx mount and GoPro mount from Crudd Parts. But shipping it out of this world! Any idea's on this?

Thanks for any info, Eugene

That's a good setup for a beginner so you're off to a good start.

It's all a matter of preference. 4S with smaller props will get you more "pop" and response. 3S depending on the setup would be just fine. Your same setup seems to work pretty good on 3S 10x4.x or 10x3.x props.

Avoid the Graupner props when you are just starting to fly. Get some cheap GemFan props, because you are going to break several of them while learning to fly your quad. Then once you get used to it, switch to a couple sets of good props and see which YOU like better. Not what everyone else says is good. Use others experience as a suggestion, not a guideline.

HansAuf just hit the nail on the head. Like you I'm just starting and I went with the F550 FlameWheel w/Naza and GPS. I've had it for over a month without any problems and I'm still using the stock props. I purchased some GemFan props that I'll be switching to. The Gruapner's are very good but the price is crazy.

I've running 4s 4000's because that's what I have, but 5000-6000 are in the future. This thing sings on the 4s setup and I tried both. I also think the NAZA controller is the way to go. Very steady in GPS mode.

There's tons of info out here and on rcgroups. Good luck and have fun.

Here's a quick video from my buddies cell phone.

1st DJI F450 Quad

I the 3rd picture on 1st post, what is the front of the quad? From what I have seen and read, the 2 red legs on my rig should be forward. But is there a way to make it so the front will be where I will have the GoPro mounted?

I am not an expert on this subject however I will offer something I recently learned about the DJI ESC and DJI Motors.

I had a motor quit working during flight and couldn't find anything wrong with it on the bench.. I asked someone in my area to take a look at it. After checking my whole copter over he said it was probably a faulty bullet connector. My initial reaction was "You have no idea what you are talking about, how can this vibrate and cause my motor to shut off." Well to eliminate it from the equation I tacked the bullet connectors together with solder and am now 20+ flights with out a single issue.

I am not 100% sure this was my issue but the more flights I have without the same thing happening again the more and more I am becoming certain this guy knew what he was talking about. Apparently not all of the bullet connectors have enough tension to always make contact and with an out of balance prop it will vibrate enough to cause a loss of 1 phase for long enough to cause the copter to roll violently. At low altitude this resulted in a flip over and crash for me.

This is my said crash, you can see right before the tip over at the end it was twitching then all at once flipped right over. At the 1:50 mark it almost rolled right in front of me (I should have landed then..)

So can I make any side the front? I want where the GoPro is mounted to be the front. Is it just a matter of how the Naza is positioned?

Yes. Presuming the Naza requires a 90 degree rotation CW or CCW, you will need to swap props, reverse motors, and remap the ESC signal wires according to how your Naza was reoriented. Easy!

You can turn the bottom board anyway you want. What determines the front is what motors you plug into the naza motor. 1 and 2 would be the front of the quad. The color of the motor arms can also go anywhere. My quad is simply setup up so that the front is white as in headlights and the rear is red. as in tail lights. My main board runs front to back length wise; meaning the board is placed the long way in between the red n white arms and I mount my battery perpendicular to the main board.

As Al said, you must orient the naza properly or you'll have to turn it so that it reflects the front of your quad. If you get the latest pdf of the naza manual it has a great diagram that's fairly easy to follow.

Great, thanks guys for the info. Will order the Naza next week I hope!

Also I was wondering, I found a Gens Ace 3S 40C 5000mAh hard case lipo. Is that too much mAh's for this? I like the fact it is in a hard case.

You need to check the dimensions of that pack. It had to be able to fit on that top board. That pack us designed for 1/8 scale traxxas or hpi or losi cars/trucks.
