I am looking for a new motor for my Trex 700E and was looking at this motor. QUANTUM OUTRUNNER BRUSHLESS HELI MOTOR(4135- 530KV )

Anybody use / know somebody who uses this motor or any recommendation for a replacement motor for the 700?

Thanks

I use both the 4135 and 4530 Quantum motors. They work just fine. They are much like the Xera motors (made in same factory) with some improvements in cooling (fan design copied from Kontroniks), although my 4530 in my Goblin gets hot. The 4135 has thick gauge windings. The overall build quality is equal to or superior to any Scorpion. My only complaint is the connectors they provide are 4mm bullets. You really need bigger for the power these motors produce. I recommend you get some CC bullets of the appropriate size.

So for the 700 would you recommend the 4135 for pretty aggressive flight? I'm running the Hacker A50-12L and really like it but at 470kv, I can't really hit it hard with higher head speeds as the CC ESC governor says that it's not optimal.

The Quantum motor winding is similar to Xera. The fact is the Quantum motor runs cool and extremely efficient, just like Xera.

If I didn't fly Xera, I would fly Quantum.

rexxigpilot,

I agree 4mm bullets are not sufficient. Are you using 5mm or 5.5mm on your system?

Twrecks, the Quantum 4135-530, Align 700/750MX-530 and the Scorpion 4035-530 are delta wind motors. The Hacker A50-12 and Xera 4035 are wye wind. The biggest difference is the deltas use less timing advance (4-5°) for best performance which is a cross between peak power and peak efficiency. Wye motors need more advance to make power.

As for how the Quantum (and Scorpion or Xera) compare powerwise to the Hacker, it will have about 50% more power. You will notice the difference. The Align 750 motor is the strongest by around 14% until you get to the 4530 size motors. The Align 750MX and Quantum 4135 can be found for around $179. They are the best bang for the buck IMO.

ASC, I'm using 5mm bullets from EC5 connectors on the 4135 and CC 6.5mm on the 4530. The 5mm bullets were too tight a fit for the 8g. wire comming from my CC HV160A ESC.

Thanks for the reply.
A key element is the the size of the bullets, which is often overlooked.

@ rexxigpilot

Thank you for the detailed explanation. It sounds like the 4135-530 is the way to go!! I'll probably repair my Hacker motor for the time being then pick up the Quantum motor ASAP!!

I'm only going to say this because if I don't... Someone else will.

I can only assume he found a motor since he's had over 2 1/2 years so far.

Unless he was looking for that Xera. Would likely still be looking! Man those were hard to find! I wanted one badly. Heard they were smooth, efficient, and ran cool. But those were so rare I ended up buying a scorpion.

Nice thread necro, though!

Total thread Jack. But since I doubt the OP is using it... are these xnovas anything like the old xeras? Xeras weren't the most powerful but they efficient and cool. I read that the xnovas were closer to a scorpion. Powerful and a little less efficient? What gives?

Quantum motors are better than Scorpion IMO, but then again so are many of the hobby king motors. Xeras were about the same as Quantum - efficient, well constructed with tight tolerances. And now the Xnova motors have improved upon the Xera motors. The Xnova motors have double output side bearings where the Xera and most other motors have only one. The magnet wire on many Xnova motors is single strand instead of multi-strand.
