Really liked my old OS91HZ

I got an OS91HZ-PS thinking it would be better.NOT....

I think most of my tuning issues were a junk Hatori pipe but I started dumping stuff anyway.

Pump?.....Gone!

Fuel pressure regulator?.....Gone!

Stupid leaky POS Hatori pipe?.....Gone!

I went to a smaller tubing for my tank pressure as well.

It is running perfect now.
Screw that high tech garbage added on an old engine design.

Nice - fewer things to go wrong!

Not really turning back the clock in your sense, but I'm impressed with the durability of the older designs. I have an OS .50SX-H Hyper on my 600, and managed to seize it a couple of months ago on a lean run. Disassembled it, freed up the ring, took some 400 grit to the piston, ring, and cylinder liner. Got the piston and ring smooth, but couldn't completely get the scoring out of the liner. Threw is back together, and have been running it ever since - probably has some power loss over a pristine engine, but it's enough to do big loops, rolls, flips, and doesn't overly bog on full stick punch outs. (Probably helps that I limit collective to +\- 12 degrees.)

Tough engines - old designs are great!

It's common knowledge that pumped os motors were a flop and caused severe tuning problems. The regulated motors are awesome ,easy to tune, and trouble free. They are more consistent and seem to make more power than muffler pressure. The regulator is not new technology . yS has always used a similar system with great trouble free results. After running an os reg motor I wouldnt ever use muffler pressure -again
I would bet all the tuning problems you had were from the pump. Bert and bobby talk about this in the nitro smack talk episode

It was a nightmare witout the pump.
I think it was all the pipe.

I just like the simplicity of the old HZ.

when you have a prob with an engine you just can't get a handle on it's a good idea to go back to basics and start with the way the engine was originally designs, only then move forwards......

I have a Fromenco ion cube here that charges them to 7.5 volts, butmsome much later life chargers that charge them to 7.2 volts, which is correct ?
Thanks.
