Yeah, I've been following the build on that here. http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread...ght=eurofighter

One of these days I want to do a scale FPV like that.

It was way cool watching the "pilot's" hands work the stick and throttle.

Helivoy - the problem with those displays is that they are in fact no better than a static display that is backlit in many respects, and in some are worse (almost unviewable in direct sunlight for example.. no so much an issue in a typical heli cockpit, but in a jet with full bubble canopy it's a problem).

For example, you can make a video/photo sequence that moves, but the AHI will bear no relation to what is actually happening in the flight and end up looking very strange. The scale of the eurofighter also rendered this near impossible as even the smallest 1" type screens are too big.

The new heli project however will have active screens, and the PFD will display the "FLIR" image with full active HUD display on the screen (AHI, Alt, Speed etc).

Heli143 - no problem, I hope you enjoy the build.

Actually, since they are bright OLED, they are very visible even on direct sun light ..

You are correct, by default they do not represent whats actually going on in flight with a model, so for an FPV flight, something like a FLIR or artificial horizon would be off. .. A camera and OSD set up could always be set up like in the heli project in his thread. I'm working on getting a program to work in conjunction with an accelerometer board for a functional artificial horizon on the display .. eventually Im planning on a functional GPS/map ..

I think its very cool to see what guys are doing, and this is one of the coolest FPV projects i have seen.

Ah, OLED tend to be unviewable through a CCTV camera in my experience. They get funky flicker going on and are hard to see.

If you get a small functional GPS/map setup working with a simple video out I will for sure buy one off you! Unfortunately I'm not particularly competent with more advanced electronics and programming.

Edit - oh and glad you all like the euro

Cheers!

i was not coming on here trying to sell, or undercut this thread .. just sharing .. ...

Yes, the OLEDs have a scan frequency that can come out as flicker. On my cameras, I have to vary frame rate, and exposure rate to get video. I found this out when putting a GoPro cam inside the cockpit. It takes some tinkering on the camera, however most FPV cams don't have these options so yes, it would not work well. This is where the TFLCD screens would be of an advantage, but then back to the sunlight / glare ..

I can't wait to see the video from that heli though! especially the pilots point of view, when he is looking around and you can se him moving the controls, etc ... the video will be sure to be a hit !
