Can someone please tell me what size head shim works best for my TT redline .53. The more I research which shim to use the more confused I get. I took the head off and found the factory had used a .016 shim/gasket. Is this shim to thick for 30% nitro? I called a factory rep twice, each time I got a diffrent answer. One guy says the .016 shim is for 50% nitro and to buy a shim pack set and use the .004 shim for 30%, the other guy says use the shim that came with it. Now what?

My Redline came with 2 shims in the box, and I put them both in there - running 30% nitro, and did not make ANY difference in running at all. It could be because of our higher altitude, but that's what I found.

Only thing that made a difference in the running of mine - I adjust the low end screw to make mixture adjustments, not the high speed needle - I learned long ago the high speed needle doesn't do anything for the mixture control, it only affects full throttle. The low speed screw is the only thing you adjust. And it is SENSITIVE - a 1/16 of an inch is a modest adjustment on this motor. After a couple few flights messing with it, mine runs fine - 190 degrees consistently now on every flight.

Just my opinion - Mark

Thanks Mark, I got no shims in my box. From what I have been reading, some RL-.53 came with extra shims and some did not. I also have read that some people got instructions with with the proper use of these shims.
