Well I finally got together my Xxtreme. Brief was to try and pack share with other 90's and keep decent flight time. As they are 4000mah packs 14s wouldn't cut it so opted for 15s.

I emailed Scorpion and asked if I could run the stock motor on 15S? They said yes so then sent ESC to YGE for 16s mod.

Pack wise I run/have run several 90 machines on 12s 4000mah Gens Ace packs. With a additional 3s 4000 pack gives me 15s which gives better efficiency and another 100rpm on head should you want it.

Fitted up the ESC with 3 EC5's in series so you can't go wrong connecting the packs and utilise the anti spark wire which is added in the upgrade from YGE.

Packs fit well, nice weight and next part of the brief was to achieve 5mins run time with decent head speed 1700-1900 rpm. At 1700rpm flowing moves I'm getting 7 minutes with 20% reserve, 1900 rpm 5 mins.

Having put quite a few flights on the Xxtreme now I am very pleased with it and also very pleased with how practical the ownership is not needing specialist 7s packs.

Enjoy a few pics:

Well done, I'm wondering why no one else came up with this? (Mikado). Seems like other pilots would like more flying time.

Note the phrase in the OP's post "...so then sent ESC to YGE for 16s mod."

Above 14S, getting into 15S and 16S, causes problems in some countries with regulatory stuff, concerning the higher voltages of 15/16S (because you're getting into the lethal range). Mikado has to sell something set-up and designed for the "common man"...and not something that requires special modifications to the electronics, possibly making them not legal most everywhere.

So.... There is more to this than meets the "common mans" eye! I'm sure that there are many that didn't know that 15s and 16s were a regulatory problem in some countries.
Thanks for the input dahld. Keep up the good work!

The Common man doesn't own a Xxtreme :-)

Some flying I see looks more lethal!!

From what I can see depending on documentation the figures for potentially lethal dc is considered from 42.4v/60v. 14s 58.8v, 15s 63v. Is this a legal limit? I doubt it and a lot of variables. What it does show is common sense, respect for higher voltage setups and some Personal Protection eqt when handling.

There are plenty of US based products motors (kde), German esc YGE that are marketed as up to 16s. Of course global standards vary.

I too am going 16s I talked to Jorge's at IRCHA and he said the stock motor was good to 16s so that is what is on my agenda next. As to the extr battery, did you just add the odd cell to one side? Does it fly any differently in the air???

Hi,

I am 15s on my Xxtreme. I never tried 14s so can't comment. Didn't think it was necessary to buy 7s packs that currently have a limited use so wanted to stick to more conventional packs.

I think the optimal side for mounting would be the right side viewed from the front. Helicopters tend to hover with the skid lower on the rotational side (right) on the xxtreme and also it's opposite to the rudder servo. That was my logic.

It flies very well on this setup.

You'll be glad of the results let me know what you think. More efficiency and flight time has too be good.

Hi Busterboy,

No video action I'm afraid may have some action stills from last night to post. The more time on this setup it just gets better. Very pleased with the outcome.

The noises this thing makes I'm sure regardless of your chosen voltage setup are just something else.

Hey maj,

What's the edition of your YGE, YGE 160A or 320A?

Just curious that if YGE can also provide a 16S 160A?

Hi,

I contacted YGE and had a response the same day. I sent the xxtreme 160a version in but I believe the 120 and std 160 can also be done. They charged about €60 and back within 10 days.

Their is a translation button if you access their website via google, but from what my local hobby store tell me they do not speak any English at all. They are one of their dealers but I think the said they have to go via another party because of the communication... Bloody Germans...lol

I just heard back from YGE. Looks like their English isn't too bad after all

Hello Nick,

a upgrade to 16s cost 50.00 euro + 8.00 euro shipping.

Please note:
- the internal automatically anti-sparkling circuit is no more possible with 16s.
- the maximum motor field frequency is 2.2 kHz. That corresponds to a motor with 380KV and 10 poles.

In the attach find the manual and the operation procedure with external anti-sparkling wire.

If ok, please send the controller to following address.

Thanks.

Regards,
Heino

Hey Maj

Thx very much for your info.

50Euro for 16S upgrading is a good deal, no need to spend money to get a expensive YGE320 16S, i think motor under 16S should have lower Amp, even it is an HK5035 evo

And 16S 700 should also be possible
