The time has arrived to blow the dust off of the crashed 500 stretch machine. I've got a new Synergy coming but soon as that build is complete I'm going to want my Protos "labrat" back in the air again.

To date it has been stretched but the blade prices on the ~470mm sizes is becoming a turn off for it. As I have to deal with another bent boom and destroyed main grips I've started the purchase war of making a mean little beast out of this thing. I've always wished to have less heat in the motor/esc department so I've got a Jive LV60+ sitting on the closet shelf ready for deployment.

Battery choices for me so far has been Hyperion 45C 2650mah and a few leftover 30C 3000mah lipos I have left over. The stock setup has always been really hot after a flight and I'm looking to optimize the power on a 6S setup with it.

I'm considering removing the "stretch" and going back to typical stock blades to increase my options with reputable suppliers. I never checked headspeed but installed all of the "stretch" parts and FBL parts and just ran it wide open 100% with the stock MSH ESC and motor. Moving to a Jive will allow me to utilize my JLog2 and ProgDisk. "W00t!"

Any recommendations for a motor? The only options I've found thus far has been a Scorpion and I'm trying to not go that route. Everything else I own has a Xera in it but I have no options in this size of motor can.

Your suggestions are appreciated. So far I've found only a Kora, Scorpion or Hyperion has been used but there has to be options out there I'm missing. Help a brother squeeze the juice out of this thing. I'll be happy to post a video of a nice beating when it's all over.

I've used my Jlog with my Jive 60LV on my non-stretched Protos. Pretty awesome device.

There's another motor option that is really inexpensive and has about the same power as the Scorpion. Not really sure about the heat since I run my Jive 60LV with a low profile heat sink. The ESC never gets hot, but the motor still does.

There's also the MVVS motors for the Protos. They make good power but have higher kv and thus need 14T pinion. Also they are much, much more expensive and can only be ordered directly from mvvs in Czech.

This is one of those "money is no object" projects. But I don't really like the heat of Scorpion motors so looking for a powerful option if it's out there. If Scorpion is the top choice then so be it, Scorpion it is.

go with MVVS 8,0/950 Protos

http://www.mvvs.cz/elektromotory_e.html

people claim it rock solid to keep high rpm in fast 3D

somebody is saying Protos is like Ferrari but imagine to put a Bugatti Veyrone engine (mvvs 8/950) to Ferrari.

I have the 6,5/910. These are very high quality motors. I haven't used mine in a long time so I can't remember what the power was like. I removed it after a crash and put something cheaper on until I figured out what my problem was that caused the crashes. I'm going to put it back on in the next couple of weeks.
