Okay I am just getting back to this hobby and I used to fly a JR 652 radio (still do actually) but I have a new DX8 now.

I am used to the flight mode on the right long switch and the Hold on the left long switch on the back...... Seems like the DX8 is backwards and can't be changed.

I am wanting suggestions here...... I want to dummy proof this as much as possible...... I have bumped these too many times and gone off throttle hold with the FMode switch in stunt! That creates a mess ;-)

SO....... I may have to relearn placement....... I want to get used to what is common and normal. What works well and why?

Thanks

Barry

The DX7S/DX8 switch layout is normal for JR/Spektrum pilots but Futaba and Airtronics pilots can typically put those switches anywhere they want. The DX 18 can program the switches any way you want as well.

You can change the assignment locations.Go to System Setup menu and then FMode Setup menu.
I always learned that the standard was to have FM on top left front switch and Hold on top right front switch. It seems that many have a different idea what is normal for them.
So I have FM on the FM switch and Hold on Rud D/R switch. That is what seems normal to me.I guess you could assign them to whatever location makes sense to you.
If you have an issue with finding/using the short switches stick a piece of fuel tubing on them.

First, are you flying mode 2 or mode 1?

With the switch selection menu, you can assign the hold switch to other locations. For me, I am more comfortable having the hold switch on the ele dual rate switch. I'm way more comfortable with using dual rates from my old pattern days.

I am a natural thumbs only flyer, so that leaves my index finger free to rest on the top of the dual rate switch. I've watched others in some of the contorted ways they hold the TX, and tried to do as they did, but that reminded me more of the "monkey on a bowling ball" and I just couldn't get really comfortable with the way I was holding the TX (it's amazing what 45 years of feel will do to your thinking).

I don't say that this is for everyone, but it works for me.

The FMode and Hold switch are assigned in the FMode Setup menu not the Switch Select menu.
