Help me out a little with something,

If a typical 450 has a bl motor of 3400 to 4000 kv run on 11.1v, then it should also run on a 22.2v motor with a kv rated about half of the standard fare, or, 1500 to 2000kv.

It is understood that the higher voltage motors are larger, weigh more, and generally intended for the 500 size helis. Batteries are 6s and heavier also.

Why I ask is it will take a motor with more hp to spin 5 blades which have a total surface area of a 600 or there-abouts, if not larger sized heli. The tail rotor will ideally have 4 blades and this system will need a lot of torque. Stock equipment will tire sooner in my o.

At what point will it be a case of diminishing returns, the more you add the less effective it becomes.

Sound good?

It all about finding a happy medium. Often when you add power, you add weight. As an example, I switched my 600 from a 6s to a 8s battery setup. I added a few ounces to it, but gained a very fair portion of increased power as well. Also to help compensate for the added weight, I dropped the mah from 5000 to 4400. It doesn't affect the flight time because the 8s is much more efficient.

then one might reason more s equals less heat and better voltage supply from a bank of 8 cells rather than trying to pull the same voltage out of only 6. it makes sense because heat is a result of friction.

It might be worth considering a 12s battery at 2500mah but what problems in the size and shape does that present?

As I said once I am a designer of many things and Helis have not escaped my interest. Always looking for improvement.

I wouldn't have to go that low for a 12s. It can very because it depends if the heli was designed for that type of setup. If you were to look at the Trex 600E, the battery(s) are mounted on the front. You are placing all of your weight in the front and can affect your CG. Heli's designed for 12s typically spread the load underneath the heli. It puts the weight lower and it helps with the CG.

and if I run a second battery it is always mounted between the skids under the mainshaft. I heard of someone mounting two batteries MASH style, on the left and right skid arms.

I spent a few minutes looking at the area 5 450 blades would cover and it came to about 90in/2. My Hirobo (600) has about 60in/2 with 2 blades and weighs about 7 pounds, the 450 is 1.4lbs (aprox.).

What centrifugal force can do to rob a battery of charge and motor of hp are longer blades. Case in point is in my garden whipper-sniper. Ever notice that when the line is short you can high rev no problem? When it extends out completely (I think 10in) the motor gets loaded down. Take the guard off and let more line out and the motor will reach it's point of diminishing returns. Just like heli blades

The 450 gets mighty small and hard to judge when flying close to objects at distance. Throwing 5 blades on a 450 may allow 250 blades to be used and not change the motor/battery (?????). Or lower the head rpm substantially with stock blades x5.
