The only folks panicking are the commercial AP guys and anyone flying FPV who is violating AMA rules.
These guys want the AMA to lobby on there behalf for an activity that the majority of us do not engage in.
+1

I also get a sense that some of these individuals want to engage in commercial AP operations, but don't want to be bound by any commercial AP requirements. They just want to make a quick buck when they can w/o any inconvenience. I would also think the real commercial AP folks would not be supporting these types of individuals.

We all might not like all the regulations and laws, and some of us may like some more than others, but I don't want to live in a society where there aren't any. It's the rules that keep us from anarchy. I don't want some drunk running me over and I don't want some drone going out of control over the next Jefferson Starship reunion concert killing a couple of people.

Government always screw up a good thing we have going in this hobby.
Really. Where, when?

I can point to some instances where they did good things for our hobby. For example, the local government banned flying RC in public parks here years ago. We found safer fields to fly in. Did wonders for our hobby's public perception.

Damn....that song is gettin in my head again.

The government is the one that gave us much needed additional 72MHz frequencies back in the day.

The government is also the one that provides the land that the vast majority of clubs use for their flying fields. This hobby would really be non-existent if we had to rely on private property for flying fields.

The government is also the one that allows the AMA and clubs to operate as non-profit organizations.

My point is this:
Government = below
SSN = Broke
Many states running deficits = broke
National dent 16T = broke
Medicare = broke
Most Federal budgets = broke
More regulations cause more problems = broke
Wars everywhere = broke
What's this have to do with "our hobby"?

If want to rant about the government go to the "off-topics" section. Lots of government complaint threads there. I'm sure they're looking for another shoulder to cry on.

Keeping certain restrictions is needed to prevent chaos.
I'm not disagreeing. This is one of the reasons why commercial aviation works so well today.

Gave us? No. More like AMA petitioned the FCC for more spectrum allocation. I knew a lot of the players in that process and it cost a lot of money and took a long time to accomplish. George Steiner, Jack Albrecht, Bob Aberle, Fred Marks and Troy Williams among others were involved in the 1991 Narrow band program. A lot of time, effort and money from AMA and manufacturers brought that around. Modelers paid dearly for the additional spectrum. The process started in 1959 when AMA petitioned FCC for the original six 72Mhz channels.

Government doesn't give anything......."We the People" are the ones that pick up the tab, which is going to happen again.

Of course Uncle Sam is not perfect. No gov will ever be.
BUT, they are still running one of the top economies in the world. And it's a rough storm we're in for sure but from my point of view, we're riding it out as good as any right now.
Any business person with this record above, would be promptly fired
May very well be but I certainly wouldn't put my fate in my companies management to run the country. Not to knock them but, well, um....I'd leave the country immediately.

Ok we paid for it. But if not for the government, there would be nothing to pay for. The air waves would have been a muddled, unuseable MESS without the government to manage it for us. Yes, we all paid for it. You think some magical entity is supposed to be out there to do it for you. You need to propose the better solution before you knock something that's working.

Let me try to imagine what you would propose to allocate our airwaves. Everybody just transmit anywhere you want. Just try to avoid interfering with each other. And if someone transmits on your channel, shoot them in the head.

rc helis are not drones, they are MICRO rc toys. Any decision to regulate them would be based on a potential mid air collision and if it might pull a full size craft out of the sky.

How else is it supposed to work? You think the FCC is just sitting around waiting for people to call in an request frequencies and hand them out in a five minute phone conversation?
I knew a lot of the players in that process and it cost a lot of money and took a long time to accomplish. George Steiner, Jack Albrecht, Bob Aberle, Fred Marks and Troy Williams among others were involved in the 1991 Narrow band program.
We're all grateful they got it done. Personally, I've never flown on 72MHz, but I still appreciate they work they've done. Great you knew them, but what, if anything, was your role in the project?
A lot of time, effort and money from AMA and manufacturers brought that around. Modelers paid dearly for the additional spectrum. The process started in 1959 when AMA petitioned FCC for the original six 72Mhz channels.
Such is life, I'm not expecting a free ride. I look forward to paying my AMA dues every year.

Let me quote and correct myself here.

The government didn't give us anything, they just authorized us to use those frequencies. They still administer the spectrum and they can revoke our use of those frequencies at any time.

The problem is rc aircraft are not toys. They have the potential to be something much more with FPV any GPS and can carry a large payload

Do you think we all have had enough of Big Government in all of our personal business?
You spout that off when what you really want is to risk MY life for your enjoyment.

Full scale must stay above 500 feet.....They have to land and last I checked....land is below 500 feet.
These idiot FPV guys fly over,around and all about AIRPORTS....ALL major populated areas have AIRPORTS....There HAS to be regulations in these areas and if you fly FPV in these areas,the cop should be allowed to shoot you on site to drop your trip hazard.

FPV aircraft have to stay below 400 feet...THEY DON'T....They make these crazy high altitude flights as bragging rights....HOURLY....
Watch Youtube a little.

There has to be laws and regulations because the majority of all people are idiots and will do what they want until they get slapped a little to show them they can't.

I wish they would Patriot Act these FPV idiots and keep them out of the general population until they are no longer a threat.

I literally never use the word literally right.
