After setting the gain to 40, 50, and 60 the tail vibration is not nearly what it was when the heli is on the ground. It was much too windy to go to the field yesterday and today but I am hoping to go before dusk. The field I use is an abandon drive in movie theater in which the owner lets me use. I can handle a slow piro on lift off but if the heli is totally off I'm hoping to get it back on the ground without damaging it. I do not have the aid of a local pilot. Thx again for the help.

So it is more stable? Less vibration? What POS does it fly best at?

I have not lifted off the ground as of yet. Before setting the gain using your setting the tail would vibrate like crazy on the ground now it seems o.k. using all three settings. I have not gone to the field yet because it is so windy. I'm hoping to make it there later in the afternoon or sooner if the wind dies down.

From what you're saying my guess is your gain is still too high. On my 600 Nitro anything much over 20% gain (about what I run using align GP780) is too much, and will result in strange vibes mid-flight. Right now I have 72% on my Blade 450 (equivalent to 22% on DX7s) and it's still a touch on the high side - I get a strange shimmy coming out of flips.

I suggest trying a range of 10-30%. Also, you'll always get a brief wobble at some point spooling up as the head picks up speed. This is normal for pretty much all helis - it passes and smooths out as the heli gets light and lifts off.

I wish I had good news but I got the heli into a hover and when I did the tail began to shake. The heli then immediately took a dive to the right in which I over compensated to the left and into the ground. I think I will stick with my 450 clone and my 130x for a while. I need the help of a local 'expert' before I attempt to fly it again. I checked every possible setting etc mutliple time. Spending countless hours on the sim, building, and trying to get help all for not isn't my idea of a good time. Thx again for everyone that helped.

After reading all 3 pages, I can't say more than

Trex 550 is the best heli to fly, it isn't for someone that wants to learn with, it is for moderate and advanced pilots.

Even though this thread is six months old I figured I would chime in. I would have to disagree. Even though I have had some issues setting up the heli it has been a great learning platform for me. I think I would have had similar issues with any FBL heli until I figured out how to set up the heli properly etc. I still have a minor tail wag which I think is the 3G unit. I just finished my first nitro build that has the vbar on it and once I try the vbar I am sure that I will be tossing the 3G soon.

I thought you do not know how to set up tail gain in your radio which it is a basic easy thing in heli world, for me, I can not fly my heli if didn;t build, balance, dail indicate, programme and maintained it.

I have 3gx, BeastX, Vbar silverline for gasser, Vbar is the winner and 2nd place goes to BeastX.

In my opinion I would find someone in your area to help. Even if you have to travel it would be worth the effort. The helicopters are getting more and more complex and require a perfect set-up. Find a local expert.
