I actually like the radio. Has a nice feel to it - well balanced, etc.
Has good features, etc. Too bad the firmware upgrade killed it........

Great radio
I love mine. I figured out you can't drop a 6 cell 4200 battery pack from 4 feet into the center of the display though. I hope to get it back soon. I have been flying my backup radio. It's not the same.

The few bug fixes were mostly in Sail programming and how the trainer function operates. If it is working fine for you there really isnt a specific reason to update I guess. There really also isnt any reason not to.Current version is 1.03

Sounds more like you figured out that you can drop a pack onto the display. You can only do it once though.

Great service from Horizon Hobby
Horizon got my radio on Thursday. They called me at noon on Friday. It was repaired and is being shipped out. That is a great turn around time. I am only going to miss one windy weekend due to my clumsiness.

A proper transmitter case is next.

DX18 vs X9503 vs DX8
Hello all. I've read thru the various threads on the radios and cannot make a decision. I have a FUT 12FGH 2.4 w/ Spektrum module. My plan is to purchase the FUT 18--, but I lose the ability to fly Spektrum. I was about to click the button on a JR X9503, but don't know if I should follow through or purchase the DX8. Can anyone speak on the build quality of the DX18 as opposed to the 9503? I imagine JR will discontinue the radio as they transition from Spektrum. My thought is flying native Spektrum will decrease latency as opposed to using my current FUT transmitter. Any noticeable truth to this. Also, I do not like "plasticy" radios. Probably not the proper forum for this question, either, but, what is the big deal with using a satellite vs a proper receiver? Cost? Thanks much!!!

If you don't like plastic radios I have a 1990 JR PCM-10 I will sell you cheap. Plastic is here to stay. The DX8 has everything you could possibly want unless of course you need more than eight channels. If so, get the DX18 and enjoy.

Well......Damn it. I walked into my LHS with a small list of things I needed the other day and what was sitting on the counter staring at me....taunting me....daring me to buy it. A freaking DX18 sitting on top of a DX18QQ. I have no idea what so ever what came over me. I couldn't help it. I got what I needed and for some strange reason said to the guy "Throw in that DX18QQ for me too". Threw him the little plastic money card and away I went. I never even read anything about this transmitter....wasn't even thinking about getting a new transmitter....just saw it and knew I had to have it.

I cut the cellophane plastic top open and opened the lid to see which edition number I got.....closed the lid and haven't touched it since....haven't even pulled it out of the box. I fly all my heli's and planks with a DX6i that has worked for me for years and I absolutely love it and has never failed. I am totally afraid to even touch this thing as I know I'll never be able to use it's full potential. I will admit the box is really pretty though.

That which doesn't kill us only cost us money.

DX-18
I have a dx-18 which I will be selling in a couple of weeks. I will be switching it out for a futaba SG-14 so if anyone is interested, shoot me an e-mail. It has had a screen saver on it since day one. It has no marks or scratches anywhere. It will come with power supply, strap, and original receiver which has never been out of the box. No problems with the radio

Can u transfer files from the dx8 over the dx18??
and with v bar do u have to go in and reset the center points over again?
no the dx18 and vbar software the aileron is reversed so you cannot adjust the limits correctly

I still dont understand exactly what issue you have.Is your Ail chan
reversed? And the opposite endpoint is being adjusted?
What version of Airware are you running?

Old thread, new post, old problem. I don't recall where I got the fix to for this aileron endpoint thing, but here is what you have to do when programming the aileron endpoints.

When you get everything hooked up on the computer, Vbar and DX18, and you get to the transmitter tab, first get the stick and the resulting indication both going in the proper direction, ie, right stick moves the slider to the right and left stick to the left. If you happen to get the endpoints at +100 and -100 you are done. But if you get say the right direction reading 97% and the left 102 percent, then some adjustment has to be made. It becomes like banking left or right while inverted.

If you want to set the right endpoints, go to the travel tab in the TX where you adjust the endpoints. If you want to adjust the right endpoint from 97 to 100, move the stick to the left so that it looks like you are adjusting the left endpoint, and increase the value on the wheel (roll it to the right). Now move the stick to the right and check the display on the Vbar travel screen. It should have changed. Since you can't see it as you are setting it, it becomes a trial and error effort.

Now to adjust the left end to the slider, just do the opposite, go to travel adjustment, move the TX stick to the right and now roll the roller to the left to decrease the left endpoint.

After a few iterations, you should have +/- 100 reading in the Vbar screen.

WC, it doesn't have anything to do with DSM2 VS DSMx. Those are just transmission protocols, they don't have any thing to do with the programming of parameters.

Don't sell yourself short. It works just like the DX6I, DX7, DX8, DX9.

Your menus might look a little different, but they again do the same thing. As long as you have some general idea that you know what you want to get accomplished, you will be able to program it.
