Need to offer a FBL option or it's not worth the money.

Does anyone know if Hobbico is going to import any other versions? This could be a very popular heli but the one they have now is probably the least likely configuration to be successful.

That was the problem with the old 550. It was the perfect size but had no flybarless option. They need 2 versions:
1. With flybarless head and no electronics.
2. With flybarless and FBL controller and servos.

Do you guys agree with this?

What about Europe?
Are there any FBL versions available in Europe?
What’s the part number?

Does anyone have a part number list handy for a X50 FBL head conversion. Will my old Raptor blade grip bearings fit or are the new ones different?

question on the E550

a friend just dropped off a new E550 to get up and flying. he has a DX6i radio. i was looking over the heli. manual and it says it has a 140 deg. swash. the radio only has 120 deg. swash set up. is he out of luck or can the 120 work with the 140 swash. thanks

Use a 90 degree swash with it and set the aileron control levers on the rear position for 90 degree E-CCOP, use 120 in the Tx.

If it is like the old e550 there should be 2 holes on the chassis for the ailr levers. Front hole for 140, rear hole for 90 deg (which the dx6i has).

Cheers,

heli770, i don't have a 90 deg swash and tomc, the swash is diff. then the older E550. i was wondering if i used a 120 swash and used the 120 mix in the radio if that would work?

I did use the 140 degree swash in my E620. But, I don't remember the settings I used in the Tx. Give Ben-T-Spindle a PM, he used the 140 swash also and may remember the set-up.

I have heard (but never actually tried myself) of guys using the mixer 1 elev to pitch @ dn30 p30 and got pretty good results. Depending on you other swashmix settings but I think you need to play with the mixing values a bit to fine-tune this.

Otherwise, you may need to buy a 140/90 TT swash and use the 90. Funny because when you go look at the e550 spares at Tower they list the replacement swash as a 140/90???

Cheers,
TomC

hey tom, i worked on the mix today. i have messed with it
most of the day. it works pretty good up to almost max pitch, then
the elevator pitches up just a little. i just can't get it to stay
level at full pitch. i will check out the swash from tower. that is maybe what the owner of the heli might have to do. thanks.

Ya, the pic looks like a 140 deg only swash although it is listed as a 90/140 swash???

Might have to go with the older Raptor 30/50 metal 90deg swash;
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXAFDK&P=Z

Glad to hear the mixing worked ok. I'm not too sure I would worry about a little interaction at full pitch since it's not like you will actually have your sticks there too often. Most of my 120 deg swash setups have a small amount of interaction at full +/- pitch.

Cheers,
TomC

tom, i thought the same thing about the picture of the swash. for me the mix is no good. with the way the swash is now, if a guy was to go full pitch the heli would slowly rear back. i am kind of anal, i want things as perfect as possible, so i will work with the mixing tom. some more. pete sent some picts of your flying field. do you own scuba gear??

HaHa, with all our recent flooding you only need scuba gear if you cannot land on the high and dry bits. So far so good, but I am thinking about puting pool noodles on Pete's skids, lol!

Hope you get the mixing ok since a new swash, or a new Tx is mucho $'s. Maybe get the mix as good-as and then limit the pitch curves to where the interaction becomes significant. Nothing wrong with being anal in this hobby but I do not think that a little interaction at the pitch extremes is going to be noticed by most of us meer-mortals, and is not likely to be the cause of any crash imho.

Pretty dumb idea for TT to put out an almost ready to fly fb'd heli which is probably aimed at newbies and then equip it with a 140 deg only setup option, which most low end Tx's like the dx6i do not have.

Another off the wall option would be to convert the e550 to flybarless by buying the TT fbl conversion kit (Pete recently did this on one of his older/original e550's btw). Then you could use a fbl system that does the mixing (you run the tx swash as normal = 1 servo, like the old non-eccpm raptors) and supports a 140 deg swash. Most fbl system, except Align, do this but you would need to check on this. Unless a guy really wanted to go fbl a newer tx like the dx8 would be a cheaper option.

Cheers,
TomC

Seen at OHB 2012

Talked to Nick Maxwell, and he was flying a TT E550 with the FBL head conversion from TT. It is in the picture below. the green canopy.
