I'm in the market for a new motor since I recently blew mine up after a year of perfect use (91 Speed 3D)

I hear mixed opinions of the YS120 but I can get a real good price on a new one with a Funtech pipe... I'm interested to hear what everyone's experience is with both motors?

-Fuel consumption
-Tuning
-Power
-Ease of use/maintenance

Please list what fuel you are using and pipe combo. Thanks!

I am an os guy and would def go with the 105. you can use a backplate sensor unlike the ys 120 and the ys vibrates alot more than the os(confirmed with vibration analysis via vbar bluetooth)
tuning is alot easier with the os motor IMO
they both make insane power
you cant go wrong with any of them but if i had to choose right now it would be the os 105

I have the 105 + Hatori muffler in my trex 700N. All I can say is what an engine. The 91HZ-R is what it replaced.

As for your bullet points:
- Fuel consumption: for just general screwing around - hovering, flying circuits, the occasional aileron roll, the fuel consumption is about the same as my 91. I got about 12 mins max on a tank with the 91, with the 105 it's about 11 mins. Course, it really slurps the fuel if you run it hard, tho. Then you'll notice it really drinking the tank a lot faster than the 91. Power ain't free

- Tuning: no different than the 91HZ-R. If you're accustomed to any other HZ-R engine, you can tune a 105 exactly the same way.

- Power: compared to the .91, I dunno... double? Even at my 7000 foot elevation, it makes nutty power. At sea level it'd be in the ball park of a weaker electric (i.e. my 700N with align 470KV motor).

- Ease of use/maintenance. Same as the 91HZ-R. You MUST run a fuel filter else the regulator can get plugged up. Otherwise, it's a real sweetheart as far as handling. Starts easy and gives no trouble.

- Fuel: I run rotorage 15% and I can't imagine needing more nitro with as much power as it makes.

Other notes: the vibration is really about the same as the 91, except at idle. You can feel it hammering a little more at idle due to just bigger size and power. At full speed, tho, it doesn't seem to give more vibe problems than the 91. May foam the tank just a hair bit more.
The backplate port for the Fut. BPS-1 governor sender is the way to go. It works perfectly on a GY701/CGY750 and probably other governors too. No more magnets in clutch bells and fitting sensors in the frame etc....

Can't comment about the warranty on O.S since I have never had to use it. As far as the 105 and 120, there are a couple of ys 120's running at the local field, they are always being tuned and seem to sound and run rough, and I don't really see a big difference in power.
When y.s. announced the 120, I was interested, but stuck with the O.S and I'm glad I did. It runs fantastic, smooth, powerful and I never really touch the needles. I'm not affiliated with O.S so this is just my experience and the same of others who are running the O.S 105 at our local field

yeah we had a couple pros at our local field that have been running this engine for awhile before it came out (105 they tuned it once in the winter and once recently and it runs so consistent) It makes so much power rich and that is what you want not one click lean or rich
