Which is a good governor to use with the x-50? I have a GV-1 but friends say the magnets fall off. Any comments?

magnets fall off? I don't think futaba uses magnets that are more prone to fall off than any other. I don't see any reason why an X50 should benefit from a particular brand of governor any more than any other helicopter. I think it is just a personal preference. I personally use a throttle jockey for a stand alone governor. Small, simple, and it works.

I use a futaba gy701 it uses the same sensor as the gv-1 (which I use I on another heli.) The magnets if glued in properly will not fall off.

The only limit I can see is the x50 likes a head speed of 1900-2100 rpm. The gv-1 has an upper limit of 2100 rpm.

You have to drill a small relief hole all the way thru each of the magnet pockets. Its the only way to let the air escape when gluing them in. The relief hole can be as small as 1/16".

+2 on Throttle Jockey

+1 more for the Throttle Jockey

What Swoop said
Drilling that relief hole makes a big difference.

Brand of gov makes no difference in magnets falling off, they all use the same magnets. I use JB Weld to mount the magnets. The biggest thing is to CLEAN the fan and the magnets and do not touch them with your fingers between cleaning and gluing to put oily fingerprints back on.
