Hello I have never felt the need to publicly complain about a company before but my last dealings with Grand Rc has me upset and I would like to warn others so the same thing does not happen to them.

Last week I purchased a 600n 3g combo and some accessories and paid using PayPal. I am in Canada and wanted the order shipped to my address in the Usa. The next day they informed me that "For the payment and lost protection, we need to ship to your billing address only." My options where then to ship to my billing address in Canada or they would cancel the order.

The order was canceled and my PayPal was refunded. The problem is that because the banks convert exchange rates when withdrawing and depositing money I lost almost $90 in currency exchange. This upsets me because there website is setup for separate billing and shipping address's and there is no mention of a payment protection policy. In fact their Shipping policy and Terms and conditions policy pages are blank. There were no warnings that the order would not be allowed until it was canceled by them and at that point I had already paid. I guess I should have considered using my Canadian address as the extra costs would not have been much more then I am out now.

I asked them to refund me the money I lost by them canceling my order and have not received a reply. I know many Canadians use US addresses for orders and would like to warn them before they lose money as I did.

Thanks
Geoff

I hate that company but your issue seems like maybe not their fault.

Let me read again....

Standard policy of any company to ship to billing address only.

Live and learn.

It has nothing to do with Grand RC.

For someone who never complains, you should understand that you are complaining about nothing.

Go bitch to your bank and see how far that gets you.

Read it again...Paypal or the bank is at fault...No way should you lose money in that type of exchange.

Canadian money should be converted to the American equivalent and then the refund would just convert it back to the original amount....Otherwise,you'd never see any cross border sales...Somebody would be screwed every time even if it was delivered.

Mckrackin, I believe he is saying the exchange rate changed between the date of the original transaction, and when the refund occurred hence the loss.

I would say it has to do with paypal as much as grand rc, had you used regular cc it might have been different.

With PP transactions this is becoming more and more a policy at businesses everywhere due to buyers scamming the system. Paypal only protects the seller if items are sent to the paypal address.

I am not accusing Grand Rc of taking the money I am just warning others about there policies. It was the bank that took the money no questions about it. They take about 2.5% from prime for exchange rates. I order many items from alot of companys that allow seperate shipping and billing adress's. Paypal allows this more redialy then cc companies.

I guess I should have just said that if their policy is to not allow seperate addresses then they should remove the shipping address option and say so in there shipping policy page. I am upset beacuse I lost money beacuse of a policy they dont state yet there website is deisgned to alow.

I've never had a issue using Pay Pal with my shipping being different than the billing (some times I ship to work) but both addresses are in the US. Does it have anything to do with the international thing?

I have never had an issues with paypal not allowing an American shipping address before and I use it with my cc for all online purchases. Paypal transfered the funds to pay them with no questions at all.

Aaahhh..I see.

Still,it seems like you should get back a full refund but with international exchange,I can see losing money sometimes....That sucks.

Not their fault, but they suck butt. I can't stand that guy that runs the show there. Ordered once, called to ask a question, and got cussed out.

I would venture to say that their policy has to do with billing in one country and shipping to another. I even go out on a limb and say that you were shipping to a USA address to avoid Canadian taxes?

I'm going to go even further and really risk the limb breaking out from underneath me and say that over time you have avoided way more than $90.00 in taxes.

That being said, I would be doing the same in your situation.

I don't think I would spend $30-$50 on gas and drive from one country to another to save $10 in sales tax.

Don't know...just sayin'

Yes there would be tax breaks. After a week in the Us (Family is there for vacation) can bring back $800 tax free and not pay the 13% tax we have here. Sometimes the US address is nice for companies that wont ship to Canada, McMaster-Carr being one of my favourite. Besides the tax issue the lower shipping and no brokerage fee in itself is a good savings. All together would be a savings of $250-$300 depending if they charge tax on the ballance of the value at the border.

It sucks for sure.

I avoid the problem by getting a usd cc from Canadian bank, then changing the billing address to us address. No more hassle.

Its how banks operate they charge you money to convert currencies. I just think it would be nice if Grand Rc would put there shipping policyies on their shipping policy page and or remove the separate shipping address fields from the checkout if there policy is they can only ship to the billing address. I started this thread to warn other people so they don’t lose money doing the same thing I did. I know I am not the only Canadian Rc flyer that uses Us addresses.

It appears that the problem isn't with Grand RC, it's with Paypal and foreign currency exchange rates, something Grand has no control over.

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them, it's always promptly shipped, and if there are any problems with orders (wrong parts, damaged parts, they've taken care of the problem promptly and without a hassle.

Perhaps the real lesson here is when ordering from a foreign country (yes, the US would be considered that if you're in Canada) make sure you understand the company's policies. If they're not posted on a website, a phone number is...
