Does anyone know an easy way to remove the plastic inserts that go into each end of the tail boom (the ones with the bearings that support the torque drive bevel gears) ????

I need to swap my tail boom for a new one as it has a few small dents and a little bit of hanger rash. The inserts and torque drive are all fine, but i just cant get the damn inserts out to swap everything over.

Any suggestions ??

Thanks

Garry

I put a 2.5mm driver in the plastic hole. Then use something to tap it out. Another way is to use two drivers one on each side and pull them out.

Sangeeth is the one that showed me and it works great.

Hope that helps.

Yes sir...I actually use a 3mm driver insert into the plastic hole and tap. 3mm is a snug fit in there and it has less chance of slipping and tearing up the plastic with it.
Just make sure you keep pressure on te driver while tapping.

Also..it seems to help some if you can remove the out bearing in the plastic insert.

Good luck!

Use the Boom Clamp Pin Screws!
Use both halves of the boom clamp with the pinning screws. Wrap a towel around the boom clamp, hold the towel with your feet, and pull up on the boom. Works great. There's just enough screw there to keep from gripping the boom, but plenty to pinch the insert for removal.

Makes you wonder if the pin screws were put there for that exact reason... hmmm.

You could possibly damage the boom clamp if the inserts are very tight.

Here's how I remove the inserts; https://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t651790

Had a miss-hap with my Rave last week, embarrassing to say the least! But I needed to replace the boom. So I tried DHiatt idea and it worked great! His last statement...

I think so!

I've discovered another method of removing the tail boom inserts.
There are a pair of holes in the inserts that are not used, so I used a 3mm drill bit in my dremmel to drill through these holes into the alloy part of the insert on both sides. Then I slid a small screwdriver all the way through both holes and used it to put the insert out of the boom. Worked great, and does not damage the insert at all.
