if you mistakenly run a battery down to say around 5% would it be better to....

A - get the voltage back up quickly but before the battery has cooled down.

OR

B - make sure the battery has cooled down before you charge it even though the battery voltage has ran down too low.

which of these would be best in a bad situation ???

I would just charge it. And not fast charge.

I don't think cooling off the pack plays much in it.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

Let it cool down and then charge it back at 1C or less, I learned this from charger, lipo manufacturers a couple years ago.

This has happened to us more times than I care to admit.
Let the battery cool a bit if it over heated on the discharge but more importantly, charge it at 1C or less.

If the batt is really hot, 130-140 degrees let it cool to at most 120 degrees, then charge at 1C. I do not believe a Lipo should be charged when it is over 120 degrees.

Even 120 degrees is VERY hot!

If its 5% straight after the flight it will rise 5-10% in a few minutes so let it sit for a bit and charge as normal.

60% of the time, it works every time!
