...so you can make a crank to fit the case supported at both ends with decent bearings.Does not look that hard with the right skills.
sad to say that given the way this engine is designed I don't think there is a way to incorporate a crank that has bearings/support at both ends. Because the crank case and cylinder are one piece...this engine disassembles in the same manor as a nitro...where the conrod is separated from the crank in order to pull the crank out of the engine....this is not possible if you want a solid crank supported at both ends.

wonder if anyone has tested it on a plank and verified the HP...

it should turn a 12X7 APC prop to 13,800 to generate the 2.74hp it claims...

Alike many of us out there, i've been quite keen on finding out what perf could be acheived with a GT15 fitted in a 50 size.
I've already got my T600N in a Big Block config with a YS91, running 2300 RPM with no bogging whatsoever, such a blast!
Yet I would defo consider a trade-off on power if I can increase my flight time by 6 / 7 times! Not even mentioning fuel cost divided by 10...
The other day I paid a visit to my LHS and could hold this GT15 in my hands : the heatsink head block is massive, making the whole lenght of the crankcase a whole 7mm longer. Trying to shoehorn it in a T600N will be requiring some serious trimming on the front frames, bottom plate and landing struts... still doable.
Now comes the walbro carb : there is just no way on earth it is going to fit under the stock fan shroud. This engine is assumedly going to require an efficient cooling system, but with a 50 size fan enclosed in a destroyed shroud its not gonna work.
Maybe some guys out there specializing in plastic moulding could manage to make a custom shroud?
or maybe the T600N wasn't the best platform to start with...

So now I think the proper application for this GT15, for guys that aren't just going to do light aerobatic / big-air stuffs, would in fact be in a 90 size where the GT15 is an easy retrofit, keeping the efficient 90 size cooling system, BUT equiped with 600 blades and 600 size boom.
I think my kasama Srimok is going to be a perfect candidate for this project. Just need to sort out some gearing issues first.
Will post back with some updates later, might take a couple of monrhs though...

You could get yourself some fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin and make your own shroud...or modify the existing one. You can get small fiberglass patch kits at auto parts stores.

...biggest issue is going to be what the expectations are vs what the engine actually does...especially in hot summer zones...

cool thing is that there are plenty of "hot rodders" out there that will find ways to maximize this little power plants potential in a properly designed airframe best suited to its cooling requiremens and power output.

it is just a matter of time....but will it be good enough to replace zenoahs in smaller airframes...

Thunder Tiger is a Tower Hobbies brand, right? I imagine they will eventually make a kit to make this engine a drop-in fit.

Hmmm

People right now pay $500 for modified engines, so this engine out of the box is either expensive or makes the modified motors look cheap, one of the two

yikes! I think I would prefer a more powerful modded motor over an expensive weaker one...JMO

This a long thread so I didnt read it all. I have seen the promo vids here but has any consumer in the world installed one of these engines in any helicopter yet??

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

As far as comparable nitro motors go....

OS .91 is $474

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXAZGJ&P=6

OS 1.05 is $529

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXBUUE&P=6

...but if you're used to flying a .91 or even a 1.05 nitro, flying a 15cc gas engine in the same size helicopter is probably not going to be too much fun. But at least somebody came up with a dedicated helicopter gas motor. I applaud OS for doing this. And I am glad they didn't make the price too astronomical.

I'm very curious how this would do in a 600. I wish I wasn't so busy or I'd tackle it. Has anybody tried this yet?
