I found out that Denver is going to have a submission only competition. Fights last 15 min no points. If no sub both dq. Final fight is no time limit!

This is how the old school competitions were so I think that it will be exciting to see how this takes off.

What do you mean? It is only 2 guys in tights, on the floor, trying to wrap their arms and legs around each other. There is nothing wrong with that.

But in all seriousness, I prefer a good knockout to a submission.

That is why UFC will stand them up. I don't like it but it is what it is. I wish that they would take the gloves off and let them go at it. Changes all the rules when that happens. People don't do lots of punching when they are not protected without breaking hands during the fight.

I am now wondering how this will impact the Olympics in 2016 when it is added.

I thought that most people would understand grappling rather than wrestling because it covers so much more.

A true grappler would not fare to well in the cage versus a mixed martial arts fighter, stand up is one key component to fighting, bare knuckles or gloved, if you cant throw them dawgs you in for a short night!

If that was the biggest component of fighting then the boxers should have slaughtered the MMA scene... Most of the pro fighters that I know focus on BJJ,wrestling and Muay Thai. Sambo and judo also play a role but not as major unless that is your background prior to mma.

If you can't hold a position all the strikes in the world wont help.

Old but fun.

Who said it was the biggest component? I said its one of the KEY components to fighting. You even quoted me , yet you still dont understand what I said. MIXED MARTIAL ARTS is not grappling, its a combination of several fighting arts.. "MIXED"

I should change the title to what is the best form of fighting..
I do understand your point. You say a grappler would not stand a chance in the modern mma world. How long do fights stay on there feet? How much of a key componet is strikes? Can a fighter not trained in effectivly stiking smash a great striker?

Looking at the history of the early UFC it would appear that the grapplers are the only ones that did good. Newer rules of standing the fighters up because there is not enough action is for the crowd that does not understand the other game being played. Fights that go until somebody wins are fought differently than ones that last a time frame.

I am of the mindset that it is easier for a grappler to effectivly block or defend strikes than it is a striker to defend takedowns.

However the subject at hand was for a tournament style win only competition.
