Why did you leave the team

BAJA170, you are selfish , you should not have left the team, now the team is 10000 units down, just because you don't like it anymore.
I understand you stop running your computers for TSC, but removing your work from the team is strange to me, did you joining another team ?

Ok, you certainly are not selfish, I was dissappointed losing a good team mate, I loved comparing our results, as they were close day by day. I have lost just as much is the stats as you do, but I don't find it a reason to stop with it, unless you have some better good cause, then you are right.

well guys from whats goin round the TSC forum the general concensis is that TSC did receive our results for the three days, but stoped counting stats on Friday. And it seems that teh stats are unrecoverable. So I dont know what to tell you other than I really have not been able to get a straight answer out of this charles guy over at TSC. here's what he posted in response to some of the e-mails and questions he was getting...

"/warning, almost a rant
Re: an outage? I would announce it loudly and warn teams if I had known about it earlier. I ran into it on Monday, not Friday (staff departure day has a lot of back end concerns). My technical assistant tells me that we may have only lost stats for 3 hours but maybe more. Yes, we stopped reporting stats on Friday, but he believed that we may have caught up on some of it. You all would be a better judge of that, knowing what you returned.

If team members choose to leave, I am saddened and can only apologize that we did not manage their expectations adequately. Outages happen. We are a small shop with a dedicated community striving for the best possible environment (within reason). A deeply competitive person who is not moved by the spirit of charity may not enjoy an environment where stats are second to science.

While I am sorry to see any team member leave and will miss the nodes and their output, I am proud of those who stay. You are donating time and energy to this project and it is much appreciated. Think of the stat outages as an anonymous donation. There are a lot of distributed computing projects out there today and I can't predict what moves one to join ours. I can only hope that it is the Cause and not the race itself.

Again as to mirrors - if we paid for every result, there wouldn't be a project."

That is what I was meaning is that I wanted your oppinion on it before I or anyone else went and got us in trouble with R.R.
I just wish we could be seen by more R.R. members than the few that look at the off topics.

Tom
Easy way around that would be to add an advertisement in your signature to join the team. perhaps even link back to this thread. That way where ever you post on this board would become a team advertisement.

You folks are rocking now!

Good idea just1vet. Wecoyote I copied yours. (shamless plagarism )
Everyone, We have donated 3 years (almost 4!) of CPU time you should be proud!
As far as last weekends mishap goes(with the stats) We can borrow SETI's saying "I will continue to crunch seti no matter how hard berkley tries to make us stop!" and adapt it to TCS

CRAP!!! I had to say it didnt I!!! Well here's whats going on now guys...its not stats this time...their server seems to have crashed...at least thats what Im interpertin this as...here's whats been posted.

___________________________________________________
Currently, the Structure NAS and the Task Assignment Server no longer communicate with one another. They are both up and functioning - just will not talk to one another.
Correction, for 30 seconds they DO communicate just fine, then the communication hangs then we get zero throughput. The Task Assignment is the one and only machine that connects to the NAS and it just stopped responding Sunday/Monday. Nothing has changed with either of these servers since 2.0 went live nor has there been a single outage with them since then. This is a new problem for us :/

That does this mean for us? Without the NAS, the Task Assignment has no tasks to deploy and clients will receive no new candidates to crunch. Until this comes back on line, we are working with only what is currently in queue and already downloaded.

There is no estimated fix for this at this time. We are still doing root cause analysis and trying every trick we can think of to improve the communication between servers. I will update again tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience.

DOnt know when they will have it back on line but might as well power everything down for the night and give your CPU's a rest

Oh, I just stopped because I didn't want to take over first place

I'll see what I can do about it, I have all my nodes running offline, because of the last statistics hickup. I'll probably set everything back online tomorrow
