Hey N9 folks, everyone wants crown gears, and as a few folks have quoted me on, bevel gears are very specialized and need a hugely expensive machine to make. I wish I had a Gleason machine, but 10,000 pounds and $30,000 is a bit beyond me.

However, the N9 crown gear is a 70 tooth, and both the Fury and Vigor used a 70 tooth crown gear. It would be easy to adapt one of those gears to the Synergy hub. Is there anything wrong with this idea? Has anyone tried it and come up with a reason it would not work?

With over 500 views its safe to say there is a demand for the elusive crown gear. I have the CAD for all the main drive components but like most have yet to find anyone that can do these within readon when it comes to cost. If someone makes it happen, Im game for 2-3...so subscribed till it happens!

Back to my original post, I can easily fit any 70 tooth crown gear to the Synergy hub.

N9 Crown Gear

Guys, I got a great deal on 2 of these helis recently, but I didn't know much about the parts issues. Guess that's why I got such a great deal. lol. Anyway, my close friend is a machinist and he already owns the gear cutter with the proper pitch for the N9 crown gear(I'm actually writing this post from his shop office). I will be making some of these for myself (as well as main gears) but I wanted to see if there was still any interest in making these available for other folks. I really like my helis but I'm not sure if other people still fly these much (maybe because of the parts issues). Just trying to get a sense for how to go forward.

I say make fifty and see how it goes. If the price is right I bet they would be gone in a blink.

Very interesting news! I own 4 of these helis!!!

Hi from Vienna/Austria. These are good news on sunday morning. As I wrote, I own 4 N9's and 2 crown gears have to be changed immediately. So if you offer them for a good price, I'd take between 5/10 gears and ask some friends if they need some too. Please keep us updated if you tested the prototypes. Which material will the gears be made of? I thought about Delrin, but don't know how expensive the raw material is.

N9 Crown Gears

I'll take 5 if and when they're done. Thanks.
I have 4 airframes with only 1 airworthy because of crown gear missing.

What goes up must come down eventually, hopefully in some controlled manner on most times.

I'm interested as well, although I have 2 new spares at the moment. It's gone quiet any news on the production of these?

There is no production any more. Only the new models will be supported in the future. No glue why Matt did this!?! I think there are "little more" pilots with our problem, so I appreciate someone is taking care about.

Read this thread: https://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t704684p1/

In particular the last post. That explains it really just about as well as you can get.

Thanks for explaination

This really explains the situation quite clear, thanks a lot. Now i understand Matt's intention, but i'm really looking forward to some news from MUSICNERD about the first finished crown gears that can be tested.

It's been some time now and if something doesn't develope soon I'm going to tear mine down and put the electronics into something else. The N9 flies so well that I just can't sell mine. It was my first 90 and I never planted it. So if nothing else it will make one hell of a trophey! It's still my favorite ship...really sad about what has happened with it.
