If the heli could throw a blade under the conditions I was flying, then this could happen to anyone flying these blades GRIPs.I was not doing anything out of the ordinary. FBL or NOT. I had the same cyclic pitch as with the FB setup 4.5ish total deflection, so I don't know what else yall are talking about.

Kogi,
Answer this simple question: Were you or were you not running a configuration not approved by the manufacturer?

a FBL head puts more power/more torque and more acceleration to the Grips and Blades, and 720s will put a good amout more Centrifugal Force on the Grips than 690s blades would, to add those grips have been in use since 2004, and there has been NO complaints on them,,,,, Century junk, no, lets not forget about the thousands of flyers that were happy with that heli, and the ones like "JKos" that still love it and fly it

I dont even know where you are getting that I was using 720s? If I remember correctly those where indeed 690s. There was also a rumor that I was turning 2200 on the head, when indeed i was only at 1950 unloaded with throttle open.

The blade grips might have had few issues, but I had put more than 50 flights without incident before all of a sudden it just exploded. And it didnt explode when i was even pushing it. I was doing some upright circuits. Trust me with a G26 PUH and stock box muffler at 6k feet in the summer heat you are not going to be doing anything too erratic.

With the Predators, we ran 2100 all day long with FB ....
Have you ever flown FBL without FBL control?
If you had, you would understand the input that is required to even maintain level flight....

The kicker is you probably let your blades get to loose in lead lag, and when this happens combined with extra input, much more than fly bar, you can snap the blade holders, or pop a link. I run tight blades even on metal heads for this reason, most do..unloaded flight is when loose blades move the most
This is the reason you see metal heads used, they can handle it, even if the pilot doesn't understand mechanical Physics of the machine....

Its obvious to all you are still learning, nothing wrong with that, its the no matter what, its not my fault attitude that is hard to deal with...

The blade grips were too thin

FBL or Flybarless makes no difference, more acceleration to the head or lead/lag in the grips doesn't make sense at all.

More rpms will pull harder on the grips with any blades and if the grips are too thin then the bolt will pull right through as it did. This is the same issue that was in the Radikal 20, the original grips were too thin, 4mm each side instead of other brands which were 6.5mm each side. Put more weight on them or spin them faster and they will just pull through. Century recognized this and recalled the 4mm grips from the Radikal to fix that issue after they realized that the Hawk 30 grips were not going to cut it for a gasser.

Better to be safe than sorry, more material to make sure any rpms/blade run by the user will hold or metal grips is the solution to prevent the bolts from pulling through the grip ends.

I don't think MAH ever made 720mm blades. I do remember 690's and 700's way back when they were popular.

People are still flying Predators...This guy was the only issue Raja. Not much for changing anything..There is more to it than just pull strength..That is very obvious. If you don't believe it, go convert your 1005 with MA plastic holders FBL, and go let Beast fly it, and see what happens. Give it at least 50 flights like this guys case, and keep your blades loose...

As for as the 20, Century from the very beginning said if you run more than 620's, to run the HD head.. They did upgrade their 50 size blade holders which needed it, no doubt. So why do you keep bringing it up?

Assumptions assumptions assumptions...lol

FIRST I was flying 2200 on the head
SECOND I was flying 720 blades.
THIRD my blades were loose.
okay.....

I don't even think MAH come in 720's.....lol SMH
I posted the video long time ago and they are still saying I was flying 720's.

Raja, it's a known fact that a FBL head has less drag, less drag increases Power Efficiency, this extra efficiency allows for a higher acceleration rate in Pitch, and or more Pitch, and or a higher HS, or all 3, all this increases Torque on the Grips

ya know guys........I don't get it

every so many months, one of the same 2-3 guys posts something in here about some sort of Century problem, in some cases that happened years ago on models that are out of manufacture. And then always the other 2 chime in to post something negative about whatever the post is about

I agree that a rotor head failure is a serious and dangerous problem. But how many times do I need to hear about the Rad 20 grip failure? I believe the mfgr recalled the part they were having an issue with and issued replacements.

But if this is just an effort to point out a safety problem, I'd expect to see you guys post about lots of other failures.
  1. I haven't seen you guys post too much about the cooling issues that the original 1005 Gas Graphite had, that caused the engine to just stop running.......and often crash the model.
  2. I haven't seen you guys post too much about the T/R issue on the original Spectra-G where the T/R could break off and cause the model to crash
In both cases the mfgr corrected the issue and supported their product. If you still have one, they are both great models and will run seemingly forever

There are plenty of other helicopters who have had their problems, its part of the process. Either the mfgr eventually fixed whatever it was................or they aren't very popular any more

However I can tell you this, there are a lot of people who read these forums and think the "gasser" forums are a turn off because of this exact behavior.

You guys clearly don't care for Century products. However a lot of people have bought them or are thinking about buying them and don't like having them bashed on forums where they come for support.

A lot of people read this and don't see it as bashing a manufacturer, but instead pointing out problems associated with gas helicopters in general. Whether u mean it that way or not, thats the way its perceived.

Maybe this is just a case of Century bashing, some sort of long term grudge because of some deal that went awry in the past, I dunno. My suggestion would be if you don't like Century products................don't buy one.

If you want to promote gas helicopters as you claim to, stop bashing the mfgrs who are making them and focus on their positive aspects. If its so easy to make the perfect gas helicopter.............go design, manufacture and support one and see how much fun it is.

If you're not flying a gasoline helicopter
You're paying 10 times too much for fuel!!

I'm sure Charles will be posting more of these types of pm's when he gets caught scamming another person again.

When will we all see the thing that is so obvious but so oblivious.
