They didn't get taken down, they screwed enough people it finally caught up with them. It's not even really a them, it's a him. Mike will likely have a huge cloud hanging over him for years to come. Oh, that's not a cloud, it's the IRS.

Mike Velez should run for president.....

Hi Guys, let me assure everyone that RC Heli magazine is not going out of business, reducing frequency, or anything of the sort.We have however switched distribution from Kalmbach distribution directly from us, the publisher, Think Omnimedia. We use an outside vendor called Retail Vision to do the billing, etc. This is a seamless transition and requires dealers to do nothing special. Their accounts and standing orders have been transfered to the new distributor. If any dealers are having difficulty with the change over or if your local dealer has expressed to you that they can no longer receive the magazine please PM me or email me at mikev@rchelimag.com
Thanks,
Mike

thats to bad they had a great magazine. But just taking everyones money sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen unless there was some fine print somewhere when signing up.

It was not a great magazine. Many of the articles were flawed and/or deficient. Loads of mistakes.

I guess if you had NO other source for heli info RC Heli would have a place but there is RR and the other online site so it was probably a tough sell. You can only make young models and spashy graphics carry you so far. I believe now he has the IRS on his tail? That was something reported here previously.

RC Pilot mag is an amazing publication - especially when viewed on the iPad.
This is the future of print magazines imho.

I am always amazed at how cynical people are when it comes to these magazines. Granted, much of the information out there has been rehashed dozens of times over and over (here as well) but at least they brought many new people into the fold despite them screwing many subscribers over. Some articles were utter nonsense but there aren't many here who are willing to go the extra mile to do a better publication. It isn't easy being in publishing as I found out years ago as an art director. For what it was worth it was something to read about our hobby which we all enjoy.

I built the fuel caddy that appeared in one of their issues. That was the best thing I got out of the magazine. The pictures of the girls were the second best feature, but they are all probably chewed up and spit out of the bottom of the spit video industry by now...

Then you had the article on how to replace gears in a servo.

Good for newbees.... sure

But if you don't tell the newbees to look for and remove the broken gear teeth...

So an iPad actually improves the quality of the content?
