Looks great! Its a lot of wires though, isn't it! I've got my OrangeRx connected to the HB800 - I'm really eager for the support for using a satellite receiver only.

Just an update on my 500. I noticed that the higher I set my throttle speed, the more twitchy my heli becomes. In fact, with my idle up set to 88% throttle, sometimes the heli will just jerk to the right or left and I have to correct it. Its not stable at high head speeds (higher motor RPMs).

I tried playing with the cyclic gain a little, but that hasn't helped. Its not an oscillation, but more of what looks like interference. The problem doesn't occur at all in hover mode and at lower head speeds. Of course, the whole reason I bought the Turnigy Typhoon is because it runs faster.

I've read is the Turnigy Typhoon has vibration issues. I guess that's probably most of the problem. That said, the motor is very powerful. I think I've found the optimal setting around 83% of throttle. I'm getting 6 minute flights doing modest 3D - or at least as hard as I can do, which is very modest.

The motor does not bog down at all at full positive pitch, which I have set around 14 degrees right now. I'm thinking about trying a 12T or 13T pinion, which should give me a little more speed at lower motor RPMs, right?

I've got 5 flights now on this heli and its pretty responsive - still very stable as long as I keep the head speed within reason.

The only other issue I've had so far is keeping the tail rotor belt tight. I have a carbon fiber tail boom arriving any day now and I'm hoping that its a little better at sticking with the bolts tight. Seems like after every flight I have to pull the boom out and tighten the belt. Any thoughts on this?

It's a clone right? On the tail use a spare tail servo mount as a additional clamp against the holder or a hose clamp. You may try the other tail, sometimes the diameter of the booms vary from clone to clone. Also your vibration maybe coming from one of the tail bearings. Almost everyone who gets a clone 500 has to replace them after the first few flights(they are that bad). I ordered ceramic tail bearings when I got mine and didn't even try them, but ran into the same on all my other clones. So I believed all the stories.

Where did you order your ceramic bearings from? I'd like to try those - would actually love to replace all of the bearings with ceramic ones as I think it might help some of the vibration issues.

The tail still feels pretty smooth when I turn it - its not gritty or stiff at all...

been getting my bearings at Avid. $1 a bearing $5 ceramic. I Got the ceramic set at HK three years ago. They still show it, but they are always back ordered. I just get the normal ones from Avid. So far they have been smooth as butter.

I took the 450 up today. It was really gusty at 3 down at minor. Flew great. So great that I went to land and just hovered there about a inch off the pad. That is when the wind gusts came and made me tag the tail. I am really good about landing the 450 on the front of the skids and just wasn't thinking. Now I got to pull it apart and replace the gears.

I was out at the park today at 2pm, must have just missed you. Took my 500 up again. It flies really well I think - the gyro is holding well and that Turnigy Typhoon is just ridiculously powerful. When I landed the tail was completely loose again. I have a solution on the way though...

Very sorry to hear about the 450! That totally sucks - were you using the HB800 with that? What'd you think? Beyond smacking the tail...

I loved it. So much that I have already replaced the gears while making several swear words and kicking my but. When I first got my beast people were saying to hot glue the servo wires to keep them from coming out. I think they fixed that on V3 because my wires are firmly set, but this being a copy I think still has the issue. I have already been able to push in some on the end that I know were fully seated before. So keep a eye out.

I actually mounted mine to the right of the tail boom - with just enough space between the gyro and the side frame to run all my wires, and I have them tied down pretty good. They're not so snug that I think I'll need to worry about vibration transfer, but enough that they don't move around. I've been checking them after every flight - because I've been checking my tail belt after every flight - and they're all very snug. Haven't even seen them move. Honestly, I'd rather be safe than sorry, but I haven't used silicon or tape yet to hold them in - might do that tonight.

I'm headed to Minor Park - its noon, time to eat and fly! The wind seems a bit stiff - 4mph with 14mph gusts. Might be better tonight, right before it rains, but who knows.

Might see you tomorrow. This whole golf classic is getting in my way. Sucks having property's all around it. Just put out red cones around the furniture store parking at 135th and Nall to keep golf parking away

It is 85 degrees, little to zero wind. It is so beautiful out here at Minor Park right now, can't even begin to explain. If ya'll aren't taking off work early to come out here and fly today... well... I'm just sorry...

No but we were out. The 450 is flying great, but I did have the tail servo wire come out. Lucky it was when I was checking things before taking off. I pushed it back in and flew. I will be hot gluing them tonight. It is hovering completely hands off.

IRCHA 2012
Just dropping by to say how AWESOME it was to be at IRCHA this year!! I got there just before noon on Thursday and watched the storm front move in over the course of a couple hours, then it rained pretty much non-stop for the rest of the day.

So, Thursday was a bust, but the beatiful weather on Friday and Saturday more than made up for it. As with last year, being at an event like IRCHA is almost impossible to describe to anyone who's never been there. My mom and dad came down from Goshen, IN. (my home town just a couple hours northeast of Muncie) in time to see the One Competition and they really enjoyed it. They've never been to IRCHA before and they were surprised by how massive the whole event was.

I had a great time hanging out there with Oppie and Mike Hamilton and a few other guys, including Mike Sutherlin, who decided to come down at the last minute. Good times!

Naturally, I have a TON of photos to go through (almost 1000, I think), but I'll try to get some posted in the next day or two. I'm already looking forward to going next year! Woohoo!

Well we had some excitement here as well! Well not really. A tree came down and completely blocked the entree at the fence. We had to call the park ranger to cut us out lol! If not Raymond was going to drive threw the fence. (:

"Crime scene" at my office...
At the company where I work, there's a "tradition" that whenever an employee takes a vacation that is 1 week or longer, his/her co-workers will prank their desk/cubicle/office in some creative way.

I knew that I was going to get pranked, but wasn't sure what to expect. I was mainly concerned with not having to spend the first hour of the day cleaning anything up... but I get to the door to my office and I see this...

Uh oh... that actually says "Police Line" on it! The sign on the window says "Help Wanted Apply Within". Hahaha... funny people I work with.

Then I open the door to find...

Yep, I guess that's supposed to be me. Taken out by a helicopter and still holding my radio.

They put the finishing touch in the front lobby. Whenever we have outside visitors, like reps from one of our customers for example, we'll post a welcome sign by the front door with the name of thier company and the names of the individual(s) that are visiting. Well, I got that treatment today. Haha!

I suppose I should say that it's good to be back... but, umm... no, I won't say that.

Very nice! Awesome that they put tape around the helicopter and that you were still holding the radio!

I wandered around Minor Park field this afternoon and actually found my flybarless links as well as the servo links from my 550. Was like finding a needle in a haystack! However, I also found a new Spektrum Satellite Receiver and a Microbeast lying in the grass! wait... er... um... I think I maybe dreamed that part after passing out from the heat. Nevermind.

But I found my links! Yay!
