I would typically do:
Normal mode: 0, 30, 30, 30, 30; say 1700 Head Speed; the (0, 0%) point will allow you to arm your ESC
FM1: 70, 70, 70, 70, 70; say 1850 Head Speed
FM2: 100, 100, 100, 100, 100; say 2000 Head Speed
Okay, I think I understand that now, except for the (0, 0%) part. Does that just mean that there has to be at least one point at 0 on the throttle curve so that the ESC will arm? I take it that is a safety feature then?

In other words, if I have my flight mode switch in position 2 when I plug in the battery, nothing will happen even if I release the throttle hold switch, right? I'd have to move the FM switch to normal mode, then move the throttle all the way down before the ESC will arm, yes?

Mike, yes, I considered the Simple Mode, but I decided that I don't like the idea that I wouldn't know what my chosen headspeed would be and that I'm just going by the sight/sound of it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

The 0% in normal mode is just another safety against spool-up if you should bump the TH switch while in the pits or while carrying the heli to the pad.

The problem with 0% in normal mode is, if you are flying in normal mode or inadvertently hit the flight mode switch (something I do quite often) and pull the stick all the way back...your motor will shut down and you will probably crash.
I recently changed mine from 0% and will be extra careful when not flying. I think there is a way to have two switches required to release throttle hold, but haven't spent the time to figure it out yet...I think Dennis has his setup this way.

Tomorrow...
I'm sure most of you have been keeping an eye on the weather for Saturday, but it looks like the biggest chance of rain and/or a storm is going to be in the morning, so we may run into a delay in getting things set up. We should still try to be there by 8:00am, but if it's raining at that time, and we need to sit in our cars or under the shelter to wait out the rain, so be it.

Beyond that, we may still see some rain showers in the afternoon, perhaps even a thunderstorm, so be thinking about any items that might be useful to bring along to combat the rain. (A tarp or large plastic sheet in case we need to cover something up, plastic trash bags, umbrellas, maybe even some towels, etc.) It may seem silly now, but you never know when some of those items may come in handy. Too often I've been at some event when conditions arise that make me say, "Aw damn, I wish I would have brought a (insert item name here)."

Bottom line; be prepared!

Yes, I have no 0 point anymore with my VBars for the very reason mentioned by Chet. Did crash a couple of times flying inverted in Normal mode... ESC arms with throttle hold regardless of throttle stick position with VBar, however, I was not able to make it so with the AR7200BX (had to be 0 throttle, and remove throttle hold for things to arm). This might have been an issue with my setups (same on multiple helis at the time). Darren might find a way though.

Okay, so where do you have your throttle travel adjust endpoints in your radio? 0% & 100%?

I don't think normal mode will be a problem. I always take off in FM2 and very very rarely land in normal mode. I mean I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've landed in normal mode in the past 12 months.

I do not remember adjusting throttle travel in the remote but I could be wrong. I would not be able to double confirm as I have no helicopter anymore with a setup like yours (CC / AR7200BX using CC's governor). All my helicopters are now using the VBar governor except for the TDR which is using the Kontronik ESC's governor.

Hey all, here is the other small heli on a stand that I made to add to giveaway. Nothing major but sure to be a nice add to any heli fan collection. Black and white spiral heli will be for sale at fun fly if anyone is interested. Spiral blk/wht helicopter is about blade 130 size or a little bigger.

Fun Fly Prize Update
Thought you guys might be interested in seeing what I picked up at Castle Creations in Olathe, KS today for our fun fly. Our regular contact was out with a family concern, so it was touch and go as to whether we were going to receive anything from CC. Jeff L. was gracious enough to step in and help out, and boy did he come through for the Eagle's Associates this year! We need to make sure we let CC know how much we appreciate their generosity!!

Take a look at this:

Well the generator is loaded! I don't think I will take it out of the truck. Don't want to break my back. Just get a close parking spot and run it out of the bed. May make it quieter. I am looking closer to 9. We never really get up and running until 11 and with the rains.

I will be bringing the large High amp extention and a three way plug. If someone else wants to bring another large extention feel free there is two 20 amp circuits on the gen.

Have fun while it last!

I think I got the Castle Link figured out. Thanks guys, for posting some information. I also talked to Greg for a bit tonight and he confirmed some of my settings, although I haven't tested any of them yet. However, I didn't get past the ESC and BEC setup, so I still have everything else left to do... servo centering, swash leveling, zero pitch, tail config, BeastX setup, etc.

Great day indeed... Good to see everyone, get a lot of good flying, great food and great prizes for the raffle and poker game... Thank you to all the companies who have donated these prizes for the event. Feel blessed myself with the CC Vertigo 550 - you guys know I am big fan of their motors and ESCs, having them on 4 of my helis already - and the coupon from Boca Bearings
