Got a three way plug for the generator this year. Nader did you try a soldering iron to loosen the loctite?

Have fun while it last!

I used a flame torch just a little but I don't like boiling the grease and oil inside the bearings.
A set of pliers & drivers with Super power muscles of 2 people got the job done!
Thanks GF

Logo 550SE Build
Started putting my new Logo 550SE together tonight. Finished the frame and the tail section. Can't wait to get this bird done. Here's a picture of the progress.

New batteries... :-(
So I soldered connectors on 2 of the 4 batteries I bought for the 550, which are 6S 5000mAh Turnigy's, and BOTH friggin' batteries have a cell that will not balance charge!

The first battery, cell #2 stays about 0.05 below the other cells, and it will take a charge if I just use standard charge mode. But, if I try to balance charge, nothing happens on that cell and it just stays at the same voltage while the charger tries to discharge all the others.

The second battery, it's cell #3 that has the exact same problem, although it's behind by less... about 0.02. Again, takes a charge in normal charge mode, but does absolutely nothing in balance mode.

Is there some trick I can try to get those single cells to work, or am I gonna be stuck trying to get them exchanged?

Oh, wait... scratch that. I'm way beyond the 30-day return/exchange period...

That's just freakin' wonderful.

Can't wait to put connectors on the remaining 2 batteries and see if they're worth anything.

close enough
Darren don't worry about the balance, Its only off
a few hundredths of a volt. If it was off a few tenths then that would be bad. Thats within what most chargers will do as far as balancing.

Dennis, that's good to know, but it's not really the voltage difference that has me bothered, it's the fact that those cells won't take a charge at all in balance mode. Sure, they say you can get away with balance charging only once every 9 or 10 charge cycles, but if the voltage spread gets worse (maybe it won't, I dunno) I won't be able to balance them if I need to.

Actually... that's a minor concern this morning... I'm really not liking the weather forecast for Saturday.

Weather
The weather may not be the best but we"ll deal with it.
Darin most chargers do not charge on balance mode. They only discharge the higher voltage cells to match the lowest one.

Yes, I understand that it will first discharge the higher cells to match the lower one(s), but once that process is complete, then it should begin to charge all the cells equally, discharging and charging cells as needed to keep them close to each other as the whole battery is charged.

However, these don't, and it just continuously keeps charging/discharging the other 5 cells while the stuck cell just stays the same all the time. So, what effectively happens is that all cells just stay in line with the stuck cell. After 20 minutes of charging at 5 amps, they were all still at 3.84 volts and only about 30 milliamps had gone in, and the charger had slowed the charge rate down to 2.2 amps.

(I know we already had a text conversation about it, but I'm posting it here for the informational benefit of others.)

That does not sound good. Can't you cycle those batteries with your charger.? I would try that a couple of times .

Randy told me he is an airplane guy but just got his first Quad, I don't know what model though. He lives in Springfield MO and grew up in the North KC area. He used to belong to the Northern Knights so he is very familiar with the KC area. He had a career in the Air force.

That's just super awesome, Oppie! With all the other items that have been donated, plus now Mikado's generosity, I think it's fair to say that we've been blessed this year!

Dennis, I don't know if my charger has a cycle routine or not, but between you and Larry Ramel, who called me and offered some insight as well, I think I'm going to just get this heli set up proper and then run the motor without blades and cycle the batteries that way.

I was probably more frustrated with it last night because it was late, I was tired, and I gave up good gaming time to solder those batteries, so I wasn't in the mood for any crap. LOL
