Now I have no way of confirming this, but I think I heard MrMel suggest that the helical run smoother..hence less vibes!?

Helical gears are also stronger. The teeth are longer and can handle more torque. The other main benefit, at least for the ENV/ ballistic, is that the helical gear is cnc'd. This makes it actually truly round where as the stock peice is molded and you have to contend with high spots and low spots when setting your gear mesh. The gear up grade is a little salty, but totally worth it.

There's a new molded helical gear that is $24.99.

Part Number is ND-YR7-AS1152

I don't think the Trex gear will work.

Curtis told me last year at Mt. Pleasant that the CNC helical was run in a limited number (the $50 gear) and the molded one would be included in the Ballastic kit in order to keep the cost of the kit down..
