Well done Ron

Now, I hope what happened to me doesn't happen to you, because it's frustrating. Let me explain.

At the end of the 2011 flying season Kyle kicked me down one of his XXtremes. I set-it-up for my flying abilities and style and started flying it, and I quickly started ignoring all my other smaller machines.

I mean, I've got some really nice smooth running, top shelf and awesome flying Mikado helis, that most would love to have and fly. But they just sit and gather dust now. Once bitten by the XXtreme (its size, the way it flies, its presence in the air, the sound, its rock solid feel, total predictability and auto rotation capability), it's hard to go back and enjoy (like I use to), the smaller helis.

Kinda sucks having all that cool stuff sitting around, never getting flown (-:

Cool video and thanks for the posts.

Sorry if this has already been discussed but is the tail belt tension adjustable?

That thing seems like it has plenty of power

No, but no need as the belt is only VERY short, it's a belt that drives torque the tube.

Shoot, Dave, as I have maintained the discipline never to touch an Xxtreme, much less fly one, and I am committed to this posture over the medium-term, it would really loosen up my flying progress if I had some backup Logo 600's around so I'm not so afraid of trashing my one.

Next time you head up to the bay area, toss a few of those leftovers in the back of the truck and I'll help you get back some space in the garage.

oops, bounced it!

Thanks Ron for letting me see the first production model that I've seen of this machine. I saw Kyles last year and there were stil some pre-production parts that I was curious to see the final product. Mikado definitely thoroughly tested this big boy before you got yours. Too bad other companies don't do this as well. One of my buddies has a brand new 700 model from another European company that has had some design flaws that I can't believe were released in production.

The last I knew they were around 14-14.5lb, maybe somebody could weigh their production model RTF?

@ Justin Stuart,

"Wow. That really is Xxtreme."

Yep

I remember in an early thread last year that when we first got the XXtreme, I posted that when we got it and started flying it, that we realized we weren't in Kansas anymore

Those that have followed the XXtreme's development all through 2011, and might have frequented my many posts about the heli, you'll recall I spent a great deal of time trying to combat the notion that the XXtreme was just an over sized 700, or worse yet, comparable to a 700.

As more and more guys in the heli community start getting and flying XXtremes, the realization that Mikado really has broken new ground with the machine will start to settle in. And then those that copy instead of innovate will start lining up.

Well Ron was nice enough to let me fly his XXTreme today. I have to say it doesn't seem right that a helicopter that big can move as fast as it does! I have a video of Alan Austria throwing it around that is uploading to youtube right now. I'll post it in a little while.

My XXtreme is 15 lbs 6 oz RTF but it is NOWHERE NEAR heavy in the air. It is quick and very nimble. Wait till you see the video of Al Austria flying it.....simply amazing machine!!!!

You can hear the wind really whipping in the video and the heli is not affected at all. You can tell in that video that it is a quick heli and Alan got the sticks after I flew it for 2 minutes. Previously to that video Alan flew it after me just like that in the video and I put ~3300 back into each pack after a total of 5 minutes of flying. I run +/- 14° of pitch and a HS of 1900. Straight up BEAST!!!!
