Ok so I've been out of the hobby for a year now, finally graduated college and have a income so I can get back in. I'm either going to get the 450 pro v2 fbl with 6s or the cheap plastic 500 stock, with 4 lipos their about the same cost

Im really looking for 3d with good flight times

I had a 500 back when 2600 lipos didn't exist so I hated the flight times on a 2200, and never had a 6s...

This will be my one and only Heli, any suggestions recommendations? Not getting anything bigger than a 500

Bigger is always better. Buy the largest that you can afford.

Both of the machines is going to give you about the same flight time. You may buy a few more seconds with one over the other but nothing substantial imo.

+1 for going larger though, the bigger they are the more stable they are. I own a 450 and feel like it gets to tiny to quickly, usually I 3D in close but on occasion will make a large hurricane or funnel and feel like the 450 is just to small to do anything to large at all.

I wouldn't buy the 500,, go with the 550!!
It's got more power can carry big batteries.Longer flight times!!
Use most of the same parts that come on the 600 pro!!( the 550 is only about 4 inches shorter from nose to tail then the 600 pro!)
And parts are about the same money wise for the 500 to 550..
Oh,, I would never run 6S on a Trex 450 !!
You don't need all that power with VERY short flight times!!

Can't afford a 550...And a 6s setup will give more flight time, not less

im kinda in the same boat, ive got a 600n but i want something crashable like 500 or 550. 500 blades are cheap but the 550 cost pretty much the same as the 500 and carries 5000 mah batteries and blades arent horrible priced specialy for the cheap 3d carbonfiber blades.

i also like the idea of shareing servos with my 600. but the 500 gets flying cheaper, batteries cost less and it getss decent flight time and is fair sized bird.

after flying the 600 for so long a 450 sized bird is not a consideration

Based on your budget, a 500 with 6S 2650 mah 30 or 30+C batteries (Look at hobby king Turnigy/Zippy/Flightmax batteries) can be a load of fun. You'll get about 5.5 minutes of 3D flying on a charge. The 550 is nice, but you're also looking at 6S 4500 or 6S 5000 mah packs, which are quite a bit more than a 6S 2650.

The 500 is just a good deal -- big enough to be stable, fun and aerobatic, small emough to go just about anywhere, anytime. It is cheap to operate, as well.

Ya I love my 500 just hated the flight times with 2200 packs, I like the 450 cause it's new fbl and 6s... I could always slowly upgrade the parts. My main concern is if the parts are gonna be comparable with the new ones

All good advice everyone has for spending your money but in the end it's what you want. I don't think there is a wrong answer here as all mentioned types have their merits.

I think I decided on the mcpx, flips in the driveway less than half the price and super inexspensive batteries and will survive some crashes. That way I'm nor eating to as much 700 money

I'm with the rest on 550E its awesome and I've seen some really good deals on them here lately. The 500 be my 2nd choice and +1 on HK batteries...I have some that are better then my Volts with only 25 flights on them

CNC costs more $$$ and will get bent in a crash
plastic is cheap to replace and both will do same job.

I don't bling it, I just bring it

Ya i prefer plastic as well but I think the fbl 6s 450 would have more flight time and power

Really the only advantage for me for the 500 is its bigger, but that's also a disadvantage cause I have a 450 case so I could bring that to work

When I got my 500 I begin to progress so much faster, its more stable which also makes it more predictable, I should have started with the 500 instead of wasting so much time on my 450.

I used to have a 4s 1800 mah set up on my 450 and thought it was ballistic, could get 5 min flights on average.
Kinda wish I still had it. a 500 isn't much bigger, almost same size actualy, a 450 and a Protos.

I may get another now that fbl is affordable
