So I will move the HC3-SX to the Trex500
RobMcQuillen has his 450 set perfectly with the HC3-SX. Have you tried emailing him? He is extremely helpful.

thats what i thought, i've seen other 450 pro helis using the HC3-SX and they were raving about how awsome the tail was, i wonder what the prob here could be ?

here's rob's 450 pro.......

it's not the SX but it should be the same tail.....

Update
I finally gave up on the 450, and moved the HC3-SX to the 500.

With the HC3-SX on board, the 500 tail has ZERO wag at 60% gain on the 401 preset parameters. The head was nervous at 50% gain on preset ACRO parameters, but seems good at 7% gain. All observations were made while hovering and during pitch pumps in the back yard. Too cold here to go flying today, so I cannot confirm that all is good in forward/backward flight, but I am very optimistic.

A question. If the heli wants to drift to the left, in other words, I need to hold right aileron to stop the drift, what is the correct way to "trim" out the drift?

Thanks

Here is the correct swash setup for the Helicommand X-Series

-Use the Trim menu to set all servos to 90*
-Now adjust your linkages to level the swash (either by eye or with one of those fancy tools )
-Test hover, if you notice any drift then land and adjust the swash with the swash plate linkages (Usually servo-Swash or bell-crank to swash), You want to compensate the swash plate in the opposite direction that the machine drifted.
-Repeat the previous step until you have a perfect, no drift setup in low wind (Usually takes me 2-3 test hops of short 5-10 sec duration so this hole procedure should be very quick.)

Thanks Rob. I'll get it done.

OBTW - I plan to put the Beastx on the 450Pro and see what happens. I'll probably get the wag with it too! If I ever find out was causing the tail wag, I'll post it here.

7% gain is very low for the head. Was this 7% as displayed on the diagnose page? Normal gains would be in the 50-80% range for the base acro preset depending on blades and how much cyclic is set on the mixer page. Are you using the thin mounting tape.

7% Gain
When you get a HC3-SX, they only send one thin and one thick foam tape. I had used the thin tape on the 450Pro so I didn't have another one to use on the 500. The instructions say the thick tape is mostly for nitro birds, so didn't use that tape. I did use thin black foam tape from the LHS. I would guess that it is stiffer than the white tape that comes with in the box.

I flew the 500 today and it flew very nicely. It seemed a little more stable than the Beastx (set up on extreme), but the it rotates much faster on all 3 axises. So much so, that I decreased the pitch curve in the transmitter since I didn't have a computer with me to adjust the range of throw. I had 10 degrees on collective pitch, aileron and elevator.

The white tape is in fact much stiffer and thinner than the thick black/yellow tape. I would suggest the thin tape on all electric machines, and most nitro machines that do not have any vibration problems.
I had 10 degrees on collective pitch, aileron and elevator.
If you are getting into 3D then I would suggest 12-13 degrees of collective pitch in each direction and around 9 degrees of cyclic pitch.

After you have gone through the basic setup reducing the aileron/elevator travel in the TX has the same effect as reducing the Agility setting on the Rigid page. D/R and Expo in the TX can be used too. Also, make sure you raise the head and tail gains until you get some oscillation and then reduce them approx 10%. This is important.

I noticed that when the gains get set properly everything becomes very crisp, precise, locked in, and stable. When gains are still too low things feel good, but when they are just right, WOW, what an impressive improvement. The heli just begs to be flown.

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.
