I dropped my Futaba 7C tonight from about two feet high and it landed on a hardwood floor. Now it will not even turn on. There is absolutely no physical sign of damage. Are these things really this fragile? It is about five months old is it worth sending in to have it fixed or is there an 8FGH Super in my future?

It's dead. I took the back off again to look for a fuse and upon futher inspection I found that one of the pins that the battery plugs into is seperated from the circiut board. I thought about trying to solder it but it looks like it may have cracked the area near it right where one of the printed circuits goes into it. I guess I will send it to Futaba and what it costs to fix. I knew heli crashes were expensive but I have a feeling this radio crash is going to expensive as well.

Futaba might fix it for free. I'd call them.

I've fixed many cracked pcb boards in a range of electronics. It's not that hard, probably take 15-20 minutes. You might give it a go yourself. You could take a close up of the area, to show the damage. If futaba want fix it free or cheap. We might be able to help you fix yours, all you need is a cheap solder iron and a small tip, and some patience.

And if it's cracked under the traces, the green lines, just scrape the coating off the trace, and bridge the break with the tinyest ammout of solder. being carful not to get any on another trace, ie don't brige two together, or to any other circuits.

Thanks for all the replys. I'm going to call Futaba and see what they have to say. If it's not too expensive then I will just send it them to fix. If they would just sell me the broken board I could easily change it out myself. I let you all know what I find out.

Life is good, I fixed my radio myself. I found that the negative pin where the battery connects to the circuit board had the solder connection break. It pulled the foil all the way off the board so resoldering the joint would not work. I ended up soldering a small wire to the bottom of the pin and connecting it to another device that was on the same leg of the negative run. She works as good as new again.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I knew you could do it.

thanks all. It is good feeling to blaze new territory. Never did much soldering before this other than Deans connectors. I was having so much fun I went ahead and did the Align 2in1 switch mod that I was putting off as well.
