I'm selling a ski boat and couple sea-doo's on Craigslist in my area.

Do people really think they can pull off such a scam?

Or would you think this is a legitimate offer?

It's a big ticket combined and this is what he has offered. No name or phone number, just some weird looking gmail address.
Hello, I will be happy to buy it but i will not be able to come and
view it in your place because I'm not in town now.Note that you will
not be responsible for shipping and handling and i can only pay
through paypal as i don't have access to my bank account online cos i
don't have internet banking, but i have my bank account attached to my
paypal account and this is why i insisted on paying you through
paypal. My shipping company will come to your location for the pick
up. Kindly provide me with the address where it will be picked up so
that i can forward it to the shipping company to calculate the cost of
pick up for me.Also with your paypal email address.Do get back to me
as soon as possible so that i can proceed with the payment via PayPal.

Best Regards.

Write him back and tell him that he is invited to go have sex with himself.... or you could use your own words.

What would the scenario be like?

That he Paypal's me the money, then has some Acme shipping company (with a Wile E.Coyote logo on the door) picks up the vessels and I give them all the titles, then later saying he never picked up the items and cancels the Paypal transaction and,... "I get left with a bag full of poop"?????

That one is another scam.

The guy says he made a mistake and sent too much, but trusts you to send him back the difference ASAP.

Then later you find out that the check was counterfeit after you sent him money.

Craigs List is the worst place to get this kind of crap.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

I had the similar situation happen to me on a $250.00 Craigslist item.

Guy sends me a few Postal Money Orders in totaling over $3000.00, then said he made a mistake and for me deposit them and to send the money back..

Just out of curiosity, I take them to my local Post Office and they took them from me, said they were counterfeit. Had to explain and got me in a little hot water.

Mine was a cashiers check.
I brought it to my bank and the head teller took one look at it and just laughed and asked if I had sent them any money.

She said they would like to have it as a training aid for new tellers.

rule of thumb for selling OR buying from craigslist, do it in person, with cash.

if it is a larger item, tell them that you will meet them at the bank to do the exchange there.

good thing you didn't do what he wanted! good luck on the sale.

I would just keep emailing them back with dumb response to see how long I could keep them going.

I am the guy who has a blast with people who call me trying to sell something.

scam for sure !! i get that all the time i try selling things..

he will answer emails if you send a reply for info but my response to them is always

thank you for your interest, but because of all the scams going on
it would be best if you send $$ to YOUR shipping company and have them pay me in cash when they pick it up...
and then he doenst reply back :-D

if he sends paypal you will lose your $$

if he send money order,it will be fake and takes a while for the bank to realize this ,then your out $$ and your toys..

if he sends a cheque it will bounce back

no matter how he pays ,in the end you lose...

Play them like a fish on the line. It's fun and takes up the scammers time.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I think its time to give them some of there own medicine. I did reply, and this is what I'm going to use as bait.

This is what I wrote back:
Hello Mrs Mary Johnson, I am very sorry for your illness and wish you well and a speedy recovery. Please have your pastor contact me with more information regarding the Will amount so that the instructions are clear to me as how to help.

Regards,

Santana

Good for you. I made up fake ID, fake bank account, and a fake money gram. I really jerked one around for weeks, had him going to different places to pickup the the payment that I said I sent by FedEx. Even gave him a phone number after awhile so he could call me, but the number I gave him was a local police dept. Later I told him I worked there and to insist on telling them to put me on the phone.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
