It would appear that most of the participants in this tired and aged thread seem to get all there modeling requirements from abroad anyway ! Or do they rely on Local Model Shops for spares etc. lets hope they don't go to the wall , that would be a disaster!

It is true that at least Macgregors offer excellent service, unlike certain other UK Distributors we could mention (OS & Futaba ones that is)..

But both my repairs have been thru crash damage, and I paid for it anyway, surely most people are the same... even you yourself state how much is charged for the RF module...

SO

If we pay for the work on top of the radio, why does the markup need to be as such? Warranty work should be a straight swap and return to JR...

None of this should be a cost to the consumer on purchase... I can't for one minute believe that Macgregors keep all the warranty returns and replace out of their pocket, so why not just swap them out and return the faulty equipment to japan at the manufacturers cost???

If our shops got a comparable end price as those that buy direct from JR after allowing for tax, overheads (warehouse and staff) and a small profit to the "international freight forwarder" sorry distributor I doubt anyone would complain, as effectively thats what you pay when you buy direct from a model shop abroad...

To the best of my knowledge, we carry the warranty not JR. Its just not cost effective to send faulty items back to JR. And I believe its the same with Horizon ( but I havent verified that so I may be wrong ).

Don't forget that the Japanese don't really have a concept of repairing an electronic item, they will throw it away and get a new one. ( Or so I am reliably informed ), hence the difficulty at times in getting spares.

I will replace any part that is faulty if it is deemed to be a warranty repair, if I can't repair, then I will exchange with a new one, and that is at our cost ! My predecessor had a hell of a time in obtaining spares but it seems that the gods have smiled on me and to date I haven't been denied anything that I have requested. It may take time but it gets to me eventually.

Anyway, t'is my bedtime so I am going to have a quick drink then hit the pit.....

G'nite all.....

Jeez

if thats true its time to re-negotiate with JR....

Their prices to you should reflect the percentage of returns for warranty repairs you have to deal with...

No distributor should have to "finance" the manufacturers quality issues, it certainly wouldnt happen in any other industry...

It translates into every UK customer financing the warranties of the few that go wrong, and paying the price for that..

No wonder the prices abroad are cheaper... If my radio goes wrong I accept I will have to return it to cyberheli or pay for it to be repaired in the UK privately, but the way I look at it, if it goes wrong in 12 months (unlikely) will I ever have to spend as much as I have saved????

I wonder if people would prefer a cheaper price with a 30 day warranty or the current price with a 12 month warranty? Bearing in mind most failures are crash related and paid for anyway?

PS Perhaps investigating optional insured warranties is the solution?

Blimey.......... look at the exchange rate.........
At this particular moment the lhs can kiss my shiny metal ass.......sorry but I have no loyalty to any shop, every retailer I have dealt with has had one thing at the front of their agenda- profit...I want things cheaper, and dont see it as a priority to support the uk or any countries retail industry.

Crusty, I agree mate.
The pressure on our disposable income is you will all agree i real heavy and the heli fraternity is a very small percentage of the population. I work hard like most folks for my modelling money so it has to go as far as I can make it. Have not the japanease not got the right idea sell it cheap if it does go wrong bin it and get new one.

Cool attitude Crusty. Pea brainers like you have no interest in the hobby, if you did, you'd try to support your LHS. Let me know which shops are making too much money, because my local ones seem to hide it well. So where do you get your fuel, plugs, bits etc?

As for you Zax, well you don't sound like too great a loss to the UK

An example of why we're getting ripped off

I thought I'd share a very recent experience as it's a good illustration of why heli stuff is expensive through official UK channels. As well as flying helis, I collect engines and have just imported an engine from the US - second hand mind, not new. It's value including shipping was $530 or £280 at current exchange rates.

How much do you think the gouging b**t*rds at HM Customs want to charge me for allowing this engine into the UK? The answer is £104.89 made up of £58.46 VAT, Import Duty of £38.43 and a clearance fee of £8.00. That's 37.5% of the cost of the engine. It's no wonder that goods are so expensive in this country thanks to Gordon Brown and his parasitic minions.

It gets even worse when you think that we're paying for our stuff out of income that is already taxed. When you add in higher rate income tax and national insurance, I will have had to earn £769 gross to buy a £280 engine - the rest will have gone to grinning idiot Blair, parasite Brown and the rest of them. It's time to leave this sh*thole of a country.

Yesterday I ordered an O.S.70 FL fourstroke from Tower Hobbies. The favourable exchange rate plus a $25 discount on orders over $150 swung the deal for me.Even with VAT and handling charges the total cost to me will be around £120 delivered to my door. The same engine
in England costs over £160, so the local shop looses out again.I didn't
really need the engine but with the current exchange rate I felt the need to take advantage, so my planned Lysander will have a nice fourstroke.

Hiya,

I have just had some servo's repaired, a set went to macgregor with no problems, repaired and checked and it was this service that has aided me in finding the cause of the crash which damaged the servo's in the first place, great service from Macgregor!!

Now the Futaba servo (9251 off the 601 gyro), this was said not to be worth sending off, firstly a minimum service charge of £40 and then the parts which i was told would be £30 roughly, so that gives me a minimum repair cost of £70!!! WTF!!

I can buy a new servo for just over £100, and about half that if i get one from overseas!! I can't blame the LHS as they have to make their slice but the amount of VAT and Duty and tax and all the rest of the B#ll#xs that makes this country such a rip-off!!

Tell you what, if $hit was expensive the government would tax your god damn asshole!!

Cheers!

Talking of excrement have you looked at your water bill lately?

I agree about getting out of this country and can not wait till we can sell up and go our selves legal problem with a right of way holding things up.
For those that have already left do you know you are going to find it hard to get back in that is if you want to that is the only way we have found round it is to buy a small house and rent it out.
Any way the tax's yes we are being ripped off but not by the local shop so much now that we can buy on line in the UK prices have dropped.
I have had things from Taiwan Heli Kraft and very cheap thank you but I can not get my fuel from there. But I can phone Bob or Bud and have something next day or get some advice now that is worth a few quid to me so don't be to quick to rule out the local shop.

As for your servo repairs try Mike at mikeridley@dsl.pipex.co.uk very fast and well priced NO £40 just to look has not let me down for all my radio repairs
