How will you rate a Duralite EXB Li-Ion 2600mah 7.4 Volts battery in comparison with a 7.4 lipo 2600 mah battery with having the current setup; Gryphon Regulator, Vbar and Jr 8717 cyclic servo’s all round.

Which ones do you think are better running battery, and what are their pros/cons.

I've been using Fromeco 7.4v LiOns in my helis for a number of years. I've also been using 7.4 LiPos in helis for over a year. The performance of both types is the same. Advantage of LiOns is they don't catch on fire in even a severe crash. The advantage of LiPo is for a given capacity they are lighter in weight. Pay your money and make your choice. In today's and tomorrow's HV world, either will perform well.

Or change to LiFe and don't worry about drop offs in voltage, they stay at 6.5-6.6 till the end.

True enough about the LiFe batteries. They just don't take full advantage of the maximum power and speed of the HV servos. The drop dead voltage on LiPo's is about 3.3 volts which is the operating voltage of the LiFe batteries. The LiOn batteries are usually recharged when the voltage drops to 7.0 volts under a 1 amp load per Fromeco's recommendation. Both Lipo and LiOn have higher operating voltages than LiFe. If using HV servos, LiPo and LiOn are the schizzle. By the way I use Life in all the helis I have that don't have HV servos. Isn't technology fun to follow?

The big difference is the "C" out. I have used the fromecos. They are top notch batteries. But if you take a close look the "C" rating is pretty low. Li-Ons in general have a low C, Lipos on the other had are pretty much all over, mostly on the high side.

The question is; Is the C rating sufficient for your needs. IMO- the 2S2P LiOn packs will handle most all current requirements for an Rx pack, and the 2S1P packs are sufficient.

On the other hand, Lipos are very, very, very light. You can get anything from a 5C to a 20C or higher.

LiFe packs drop to 3.3volts per pack and stick. So a 2S system is 6.6 volts, always. It is like having a regulated voltage without the regulator. Only thing is; it is difficult to determine the charge status of the pack. You can not do an impedance test on them. They will read 6.6 Volts regardless of the remaining capacity.

Personally, I prefer 5C lipos in the 3600mah range for my Rx batteries. More current then I'll ever need and I can fly quite a few flights between charges.

I prefer Li-ion for the reason that I can get 3 - 4 years service without replacing them, more robust than Li-po in case of a crash.
