Or use the same type of streamer material used in combat flying for planes...

We've been doing helium balloon chase for a few years and it's become a spectator favorite. We have an RC balloon release system that somebody built out of servos and clothes-pins.

Half-regular air, half-helium. Otherwise it rises too fast.

We time each participant for three attempts... Total time is added up. The person with the most popped balloons in the shortest time wins.

The cool thing about this is that the participants who do the worst (longest time to pop) usually put on the most interesting show. I've been way...way upstairs and still managed to pop the balloon. It's pretty satisfying.

As far as I know, nobody has yet been taken down by a balloon fragment flying into the works, but we realize that might happen.

Best way to get everyone to attend the autorotation contests is to simultaneously have a wet T-shirt contest.... of the registered pilots. Since most of us are not into wet man b@@bs we will flock to the next event simply to avoid any association with said wet T-shirt contest.

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Is the release at ground level, or at some altitude ? Sounds fun and something even moderately skilled pilots would have fun trying.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

The release is at ground level. The heli has to be on the ground, and behind a line before the balloon is released. So you have to get off the ground and travel 30ft or so before you can catch-up to the balloon.

In those few seconds, the balloon might already be 10ft off the ground.

The obvious strategy is to hit the balloon in the first few seconds, but it's harder than it looks.

And we frequently see good hits where the balloon doesn't pop. Saw one once that caused the balloon to travel between the blade disc and the boom... didn't pop. ??

Heli Poker Run!
10 landing stations down the flight line say a hoola hoop. Land in the circle collect a card and fly and walk to the next one.
Best poker hand wins!

All luck, a newbie with 5 good landings out of 10 could beat the guy that landed all 10.
