We're doing it again in Port Charlotte, FL folks, we'll post more info soon so stay tuned. Scheduled for February 24-25-26, 2012, same field as last year.

Our field is easy to get to.

Directions from the north or south on I-75

I-75 to exit 164 (route 17) head east, it's a right off the highway ramp in either direction, travel approx 4 miles and take a right onto Washington Loop Road, it's on the corner just past a green building (Tai Food Resturant) Punta Gorda water works plant is approx 2 miles on the right. Our flying site is located behind the water plant. There is a gate and access road a few hundred yards past the water plant. Come down the access road until you see our field.

GPS Coordinates to the SHELL CREEK R/C FIELD main gate
N 26 ' 58 ' 25.5 "

Folks more to follow on the Port Charlotte Event.

Because of the economy we will be keeping the registration price the same as last year $25 and this will include an event tee shirt, I will open up pre registration on our club website but you will receive a tee shirt for the same $25 if you pre register or pay at the event, pre registration will just speed things up

Hate to think what the landing fee would be in a good economy.

Maybe this should be in its own thread but seriously, why are all of the events in Florida charging $20-25 in landing fees? Being from Indiana where most events charge at most a $10 landing fee, I just don't get it. At most IRCHA is $40 but that's a 1000 pilot event. The Orlando Blowout was also $25 but it too was a very large event. The local field here in Orlando charges $50 to fly all year long.

All I'm saying is, one thinks twice about traveling to an event with 25-30 pilots for a one day event when I can stay home and fly all year for $50. Don't get me wrong, I love to visit the local events but I'd rather see these clubs keep the shirts and "free" lunches and drop the landing fees. The last one that offered a "free" lunch didn't even offer a basic hot dog so I had to leave and take my wife and kids to Wendys so there was something they would eat.

Dave, the tee shirts are $10 basically the landing fee ends up being $15, it has been a tradition for the Port Charlotte to include a tee shirt, one year we didn't and got allot of complaints because everyone wants the annual tee's, our tee shirts are hi quality with a pocket. we don't include a meal, but I might bring that up to the club at our month meeting to possibly include the tee shirt and meal for the registered pilots and that may be a better deal this year. We have food available and have keep the food prices at $5 for a past few years, we have either a hamburg, or cheeseburger, with chips and a soda or water for that $5 or two hotdogs, chips, and a drink, we always sell out on the food and sold all the extra tee shirts last year.

We haven't raised the price of our event for years and don't have any intention to do so, the local events help the clubs to stay afloat so I have no problem visiting other venues in Florida and helping there clubs out, I haven't flown our heli's in a couple of years, I'm the "Team Mechanic" for Outrage and usually just work on the team machines at events we frequent, I still register as a pilot to help support the event, and if I win anything it goes back into the pot so someone else has a chance to win something. It's not just about the landing fee, it helps to support the club hosting the event and gives us a chance to hang out with friends and meet new folks.

I can't wait... I'll get to visit my hometown again, see some old friends, and enjoy a helicopter event! Coming from West Palm Beach. As far as the $25, that's not so bad. Happy to help support the local club, and I get a free Tshirt to boot?? Winning!

See you all there
