I have a slightly different tail problem on my Fusion50. I have the tail kick as I pitch up (Climb medium to hard) that would suggest my tail gain is too low but at all settings from moderate to maximum gain it reacts the same. Additionally as I pull up vertical from forward flight or loop or climb fast the tail emits a noise like chirp chirp... about 2/ second. this noise dissapears as I release the load.

Tail control is fine and smooth, tried different blades, got a fast powerful tail servo (Savox 1290mg) running at 6v . Also none of the tailgears are damaged, and tail gears have some play but very minimal (no slop)
Cyclic operates flawless.
I have an identical Fusion50 flybar with a Futaba 520 gyro and it is locked solid tail. I cant imagine a CY product being anything less than 100% so it must be settings or setup?

Any ideas. Bob

Try going out with the ball on the rudder servo arm.

Try out farther on the rudder servo arm with the ball then redo your throw setting . You said you already upped the gain and no difference so I think that the torque the heli is putting out the rudder servo isn't moving enough to compensate and is playing catchup. On the smaller helis when people have a wag problem it's usually because their ball is too far out on the rudder servo after they played with the gain and the mounting setup.

I think your chirp is something else. Is this heli belt driven?? May be slightly loose or twisted wrong in the boom and rubbing against itself.

Oh No Someone Please Stop Me Before I Go Broke With This Heli Thing!!

Couple questions...

1. What's your gain set to?

2. How far out is the ball on the rudder horn in mm?

3. Did you set right and left max throw in the TG?

4. Do you have a regulator, step down or life pack?

5. Is your tail kicking in normal, idle up or both?

6. What's your head speed?

Thanks for the reply.
Tail gain set to 50 60 70 80 99 at various tests using gain channel and as indicated by the CY program. Does not seem to make much difference to tail "kick" of 10" to 14" during power application. At the higher numbers it is a little better at the 10" mark

2. 12.5mm std Fusion setting

3. left and right throw set for max movement but not hitting dtopd

4.Power is a 2s 35c LiPo through a 6V Dualsky 8A reg

5. Tail kick at all settings

6. Head at normal 1900 Iup1 2000 Iup2 2100

Also only as I climb out medium to hard and whrn i pull large cyclic I get a 2/second chirping sound sort of like my gain was too high with the tail ???? But the tail does not occilate like it is over-gain at any stage. .....strange.
Again thanks for the help. Bob

Bob

Try 16mm out on horn and gain around 80-85. Lemme know if that helps.

I took the ball in and reset the tail range and it seemed to help a little, I have hot taken it out yet. Bob

TotalG tail oscilation under climb out

Still have problems so I have rephrased additional info in the hpe someone has seen this problem before.

Dear Sir,
Could you please help me or refer this e-mail to someone who can.

I am trying to solve a minor problem with both of my TotalG units that are mounted in a Outrage fusion50 and the other in a BEAM 450.(Both electric)
I have found the TotalG units both easy to set up and fly in both helicopters and are giving excellent results in both with one exception, the tail.
The tail gyro part of the TotalG on both helicopters hold well overall but during climbout from hover the tail oscillates at a high frequency approximately 2 oscillations per second and at an amplitude of approximately 2-10cm (4" depending on how hard I apply collective. I would describe it as a overcontrol oscillation but if I reduce the gain the tail kicks out on application of power, and the oscillation still remains. After the climb out and the collective is reduced to a mild level the oscillation stops or at least is not noticeable.
On the beam I have a HiTec digital HSG-5084MG and the Fusion50 I have a Savox digital SH-1290mg , both very fast servos and both new. I have the servo type selected as a standard digital in the TotalG tail menu and otherwise set as per instructions.
In comparison I also have a flybar version of the above Fusion50 with a Futaba 520 gyro and the same model tail servo and it has perfect tail hold and control in all conditions.
I am sure the TotalG has the equal or better tail control of any unit on the market so I am sure it is a setting I have not got quite right, can you suggest any setting changes that might fix this problem. I have one of the new Outrage tail servos coming in case it is a compatibility problem but I don't expect this to help. I have spoken to some heli flyers on various forums who have had the same problem and were unable to fix the oscillation and migrated to other brands, but I feel there is a solution and would like to find it.

Have you tried lowering the tail gain until the oscilation stops? Links are sized with no binding? Does this oscillation only happens on a climb out?

I usually test the gain by doing a funnel if the tail kicks (oscillate) lower the gain until it stops.

I didn't read every word in this post but back to the chirping sound you referred to. That sounds mechanical to me. I would look for a possible thrust bearing in the tail locking up or hanging. It could also be another bearing in the tail systems somewhere or main shaft bearings. Anything like that will cause a tail kick. That does not sound like a gain or gyro issue unless it's strictly a low or fast oscillation. How is the Total-G mounted? Also make sure you have the proper servo type selected in the tail setup. Hope this helps.

One more thing, if this is electric check that your pinion is not slipping. That could be the chirping noise as well.

Hey Bob

Check your boom braces they might be coming apart or loose. I had this happen to my Trex700 replaced them and problem went away. I know it sounds crazy but trust me it worked.

Governor Gain, Motor Timing, and PWM Settings on an ESC could also make a chirping noise during climb outs as well.

What ESC?
