Buying LiPos should be a very "informed act". My Trunigy packs were very cheap, but after about 30 cycles the X5 FES start losing power after about 2min of hard 3D. They were fine up to now, but deterioration seems be exponential!
I’ve seen on HF that the Votz and Spyder packs seems to be highly rated, but no one is giving any long term feedback.

Any one care to comment on the packs suitable for X5 (fitting) w.r.t. value and longevity?

Here’s mine : Turnigy 4500mAh 6s fits without modification. Pack broke in after 5 flights. VERY good price. Crappy performance after 30 cycles.

Turbonator,

Are they Turnigy or Turnigy Nano-tech? Nano-tech are crap, especially so for 6S, not so bad when used as 12S.

Voltz 35C fit the X5 well, but are similar to nano-techs, the puff very quickly.. The Voltz 65C seem to be getting better reviews but im not sure there is a 4200mah version..

Turnigy 4000/30C are working fine for me.. I have some GensAce 4000/25C on the way, as they are getting excellent reviews..

I'm using the normal Turnigy packs (not Nanotec). All the Nano-tech packs are a bit long.
Thunder Power sounds great on other forums, but very pricey!

Hyperion

I have one set of Hyperion 4200 35C and 2 sets of 45C. I like the 45C slightly better but can only tell the difference when I am bailing out of a goof. CG is great and at 10 cycles they all got stronger. I am roughly 40 cycles in they are doing great with no fade. I used to experiment with packs but I will not be making any changes any time soon.

Hobby City warning. I ordered 4 batteries from them in March 2011. I still do not have them almost 10 months later. If anybody has any connections with a live person there, let me know. All I get is programmed responses and they send me an e-mail at midnight and close my case. PayPal bailed because of the 45 day rule.

I actually do not normally bad mouth companies but 365 bucks and being ignored is a little much.

Love the Hyperions.

So far I've put about 20-25 flights on Sky Lipo 4000mah and 4400mah 40C packs. I've even dropped them down to about 16-17% capacity a couple of times (but brought the voltage back up asap).

They still pack a good punch and haven't seen a loss of flight time/capacity. The internal resistance of each cell are at or lower than 2mv.

I agree... The performance of these packs far outweigh the price difference than competing brands.

GensAce

Since my last post, I picked up a couple of GensAce 25C, 4000 packs. I have been happy with them so far. I am at about 15 cycles and have seen no negatives. My Hyperions are stronger. The heli sounds meaner with the Hyperions but I cannot really tell the difference when flying. I am no expert but they can handle everything I can throw at them. They are very close to the 35C Hyperion. I will be ordering more of them at 100 bucks less. We will see how long they last. I plan to use 2 of them in a 12S setup for my Logo as well.

Correction: I finally got a credit from Hobby King. It took 10 1/2 months but they did make it right. One positive that came out of this was finding the great Hyperion packs and the very good GensAce packs. Now I have choices.

SO far, Hyperion packs are getting more cycles than other brands. This are coming from people that I talked to that been flying several different brands on the same heli. Pinoy.

I have not been flying for more that 6 months and decided last week to dust off the X5 , charge the LiPo packs and give it a go.
I’ve got an old Turnigy and 3 new NanoTec packs.
The normal Turnigy pack still works fine, but the NanoTec ones would barely spool up to a hoover. I’ve cycled them 3 times to “awake” them but there is no improvement. I then decided to discharge them all to 3.5V/cell and the one bloated up! All 3 NanoTec packs are stuffed!

The oldest, cheapest one in still working fine!
