Just received my Phoenix yesterday from Dood. I LOVE it. Also, Dood put in A LOT of extra goodies with the package I didn't even order.

I am happy I went with Phoenix, and went with Dood.

Thanks guys for all your input!

I'm eating a little "RealFlight Crow"!
I bought a gaming computer a while back and purchased RealFlight 6 to compare to Phoenix.
I installed it and flew for a couple hours and posted that I felt Phoenix was still better. Wellll......now that I have used it for a while, I really like it. I had RealFlight Basic and you simply cannot compare it to R6. The physics have been completely changed for heli's. The Rave 450 feels real to me, and I especially like the idle up feature.

Yes, I still think the phoney graphics suck, but I only fly on the Photo sites. I don't know if you can import flying sites like you can on Phoenix. I've only flown RF5 for a few minutes in our LHS, so I can't comment on it. But I think RF6 is a "new level" for their heli's.

Thanks for your comments. I heard the Plankers on Phoenix are not as good as the helis. Fortunately for me, I have NEVER flown a plane. I'll stick with the cool stuff.

Yep, I have both and for some reason my RF stopped working and it refused to reload from the disks. After an hour of trying I popped in my Phoenix loaded, ran the easy to follow calibration and was up and running again.
The only reason I left the RF connected (before this failure) was my grandson is a little rough on the control box so I didn't want him using my X9303 transmitter.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

GyroFreak,

It sounds as though there are more problems with RealFlight (loading, passwords, codes, etc..) than Phoenix. As far as Phoenix goes, plug n play, no codes, free updates.

Reminds me another on going feud. E vs N.

Phoenix - electric
RealFlight - nitro

Does RF offer free updates? What are expansion packs?
They've released 8 of these expansion packs over the past 5 or 6 years. They sell for about $40 each, include about a dozen (usually unpractical) planes, 2 or 3 helicopters, and a new flying site.

http://www.realflight.com/expansionpacks.html

They do not offer free updates, generally speaking. But their .5 updates have always been free.
G3 was $200, free to update to G3.5
It was another $200 to go to G4 (which was just like G3), but free to update to 4.5.
Then there was G5. a free update to 5.5, and a year later there was G6. That's where we are now.

Lately, they've gotten their act together and decided to charge about $50 for each update for those who own the controller.

I just switched from Phoenix to Real flight 6 a few days ago. I needed to make the change because, in my opinion, Phoenix is no good for planes. If I'm ever going to get good at rolling circles, it's not going to happen using Phoenix

I think some of you are short changing phoenix on the planes. I have a 35% extra 300 and owe my planes existence to Phoenix. Rolling circles, rolling harriers etc work very much like my plane. After flying Helis for a couple of years I added giant scale planes. It was the hours of sim time that gave me the confidence. Dial up a good cross wind it'll come in handy some day.

I don't know about that.
Like you, I added a giant scale plank after flying helis for several years. My interest in planks was sparked by my messing around on the sim. (On Phoenix)

I started messing around with 40 size planks last year, and this spring jumped into my big gasser.
I didn't touch the sim all summer long. The only flying I did was at the field.

Sometime in August or September, I jumped on Phoenix and set up to go into an inverted flat spin. The way the plan acted wasn't right at all! In the stall, just as the plane would start to nose over. Even at 0 airspeed, the rudder and elevator have WAY too much authority. I went up, tried again.. Same thing. Phoenix is whack!

It's when you go into those stall speed maneuvers that everything is messed up.
Phoenix works fine for flying around at a good clip. I enjoyed it. But as I continued to fly planes on Phoenix and my skills progressed, the more I began to outgrow it. The thing is, you see, I didn't know what was wrong with Phoenix planes until I logged a several hours in a real plane.

I've been playing with Real Flight 6 since Thursday. It says I've got 10 hours logged already (about 5 heli, 5 plane).
So far I'm loving it. The planes feel awesome. They feel RIGHT, and I cannot say the same about the planes in Phoenix. Especially the new Sbach. I love that plane!! Heli's feel pretty good too since I've gotten used to them, although with the Dominion 90 3D (fictitious generic heli), I've noticed it feels really floaty doing certain maneuvers. It may be true with the other helis, but I've used the Dominion the most so far. That, and the flybarless Synergy N5 (which is wicked fast!)

I can sit on my couch and sim with my big screen TV.
