Thinking of buying a new heli trying to decide between a Gaui X5 or an Align 550. What do you think?

I was in the same boat recently and after several months of thought I decided I am going to go with the X5. More of a unique heli, and I think it is higher quality right out of the box!

There is NO comparison, the X5 dominates the 550. Fly one and you'll see.

Myself I don't care very for the Align products therefore my vote also goes for the X5. I've owned both and the X5, in my opinion, flies better.

I have both. They both fly very well, the Gaui is lighter, "nicer" and more powerful in stock setup, the 550 is heavier and just like the other Trex, which is no bad thing. The Gaui flies best with 3800-4200 6S Lipos (5 min 3D), the 550 needs 5000 6S lipos for 5 min 3D and to balance out. If I had to keep only one, I'd probably choose the Gaui, it autos really well, the Trex is a bit too heavy.

You want the best 550 get the logo 500. The X5 is not all that it is cracked up to be.

Im sure OP asked for opinions on which was better out of the Align Trex 550 and the Gaui X5?

Logos are great helis and fly superb but despite their flight capabilities not everyone likes the look of the logo's or the plastic frames. I personally dont have a issue with plastic frames or the look of logo's but some do.

Get the X5.
The X5 has a better design, is considerably lighter and more powerful allowing it to out fly the trex550 with ease...

My great love of Align stems from the ready availability of economic replacement parts. How's the Gaui/Logo parts compare price wise?

I couldnt tell you how they compare. I do know Gaui X5 parts arnt expensive.

No everyone bases these heli purchases on how economical the parts are.
Some of us are happy paying a fraction more for parts if it means we have a a better performing heli.

I never said everyone? Not sure where the "better performing" bit comes from either, how many major comp's have Gaui won?

Tried the better route once before with the Srimok LOL

Comp's have very little to do with heli and everything to do with the Pilot. The competition pilots could fly the pants off any heli, even and trex clone. Mikado have some best pilots on their books at the moment so its no surprise they are winning.

Also, competition pilots fly with the bigger machines i.e. 600-700's as they are more stable and powerful. As Gaui doesnt make a 600 machine and is only just about to release they X7 its a bit hard for pilots to win competitions if the heli is suitable..

Anyway, time to charge some packs and go fly..
