My wife upgraded our internet and the modem it came with only has 1 out let, well I have 2 PC's,1 laptop and Xbox 360 .1 PC doesn't have a wireless card.
Was looking on Craigslist and found a good deal on a Model No.WRT54G2 Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with a 4-port switch..Here's the question's I asked the guy and I need to know from someone that knows about wireless if he's correct?

He said I won't have issue's installing it in my home after it's been hooked up in his.Is this true?
He also said that I can hookup the PC without wireless right to the Linksys box and run my wireless stuff at the same time without issue's.Is that also true?

I never used wireless so wanna make sure im good to go with this?

He's right.

But, only if that router is wireless as well.

or you can buy a wireless USB adapter for your wired PC. Then everything you have will be wireless.

Yeah, I like using a router even with home wireless.

For the specific reason of security. Most all routers, either wireless or otherwise have a firewall. That works in addition to your PC's firewall.

Don't forget. Once you go wifi you can use the wifi on a smart phone or any phone that has wifi and have a faster connection when at home.
I recently change providers and now my son uses my old smart phone online(wifi) to surf the web and download apps(angry bird stuff).
Right now my wife is watching a Netflicks movie through our Wii on wifi.

Follow the instuctions and you shouldn't have a problem. One tip is to write down your connection name and password it will come in handy once in a while.

Anyway it is easy to setup.

If I was you I would spend a little more and buy a N router with 300Mbps instead of the G which are rated to 108 Mbps. The N routers are backward compatible to the older B, G equipment.

drifter88,
May i'll do that down the road but getting this one tomorrow. Can't go another day of back and forth with 1 PC lol ..
So all my wireless card's will work with the N router? What about mixing brand's up?I went with Linksys because that's the brand of card's I have now..I know nothing about this stuff ..

If you have a open(everyone can connect without a password) connection(wifi). every one around you can use your internet if they can get signal.
A friend of mine can pick up 5 wifi signals in his apartment complex that aren't secure. This means he doesn't have to pay for internet. This means: He can use other peoples wifi and connect to the internet and never has to pay for it.(btw he pays for his own internet connection and does his secure wifi)
N,A,B only speed of the router now days. Unless you setup a home network where you have a single printer, say conected to a desttop, and when you want to print something from your laptop, it will be faster.
Modem speed is alot faster talking to another computer within your house but online it won't make a difference.
I you aren't constant;y on the puter and networking with others within a work network I see no reason to worry about the top dollar routers.
