This is truly 101% a scam that I have never experienced before. Long story short, I posted some photography equipment for sale on craiglist. Shortly afterwards, I got a email from someone who is very interested in it and asked me if I accept paypal and ship it overseas. I told the buyer I can accept paypal, but I ship to nowhere except the verified paypal address. So, the next day, I receive the following "Paypal" payment email.

I do not click any link on the email. I log into my own paypal account and of course find no money.

It is a scam........

Do you really think Paypal is going to police a transaction and look out for someone other than themselves?

Sent a copy of it to Paypal's fraud division.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

Definately - I had the same scam tried on me

Yes - 100% positive this is a scam. I had the exact same type of thing done when I tried to sell an iPod Touch and someone "bought" it for $700!!!! The message indicated it was being held up in Paypal until I provided a valid shippment tracking number.

Contact Paypal's Fraud Division immediately

Had this same thing happen to me a couple years ago when I was selling my daughter's camera. It sold 2 times to Nigerians and they sent me pretty much the same fake PayPal e-mail. It even looked better than the one you got. It was a perfect copy of the emails you get from PayPal. I suspected it was a scam, and told them I would only ship if I had the funds in my account. I never heard back from them. I got my listing fees from PayPal returned as the buyers were no longer ebay members when I complained. I changed the listing to US only and had no more problems.

Sadly the scammers have gotten pretty elaborate and now you must be careful on Craigslist.

Craigslist specifically states not to ship anything unless you have funds and they are verified first.

Steer clear of that and anything going out of the US especially Nigeria.

Scam all the way. Never open the PP link in the email if they say they have sent payment always go directly to your browser and type in the paypal address and log into your paypal account you will never see the payment they said that they had sent you.

I have stopped dealing with Craigs list due to the volume of scammers out there using this tactic.

Also be aware that anyone offering to pay you more then the amount you have the item listed at is a scammer.

I have dealt with more than I can remember of these types of scams. First they email you to ask if the item is still for sale, after you reply back stating it is, they offer you more money and ask if you will send it to some place out of the CONUS. You can spell it out in large font that you do not under any circumstances ship any items out of the US and they will still ask you to do so. The easiest sign to spot a scammer.

Scam all the Way

My father is from Nigeria and I lived there until i was 10.
Sad to see alot of scamming going on and originating fron that country. Anyway's there are crooks everywhere and you should be cautious.

Send a nice color postcard sized picutre of the photography equiptment to the seller, with tracking of course, with a note saying
"Bawoni As**ole"

It is a Scam-it's been made clear to stay away from these. Most people only receive these emails when the asking price is over a few hundred dollars. Just like the emails that say you can receive millions if you help a exiled Prince by sending him a couple thousand dollars to help him get his money back-if it smells like S@I@-probably is-

For real entertainment visit 419eater.com and read the accounts of people scamming the scammers. It's hilarious what they get these people to do.
