I'm using 8fg with GY701 but have never used a governor before.
I know it is possible to switch on the governor using the throttle stick but I assume it is also possible to have an overide switch that switches the governor off for tuning purposes?
Can someone briefly explain how I do this?
Thanks

Doing so requires the use of S.Bus. With an S.Bus receiver, you can assign governor on/off to any switched transmitter channel. Conventional receivers use stick switching only.

All my receivers are S.Bus. Setting up the gyro was easy but having never used a Governor I'm finding that a bit more confusing.
Help would be appreciated.

Gy701 governor needs three channel to work.

One channel for speed selection. ( channel 7 )
One channel for On/Off governor. ( channel 8 )
One channel for throttle servo. ( channel 3 )

On Governor´s menu you need to set the on/off feature in S.BUS mode. page 48. As a default is INH, you need to activate.

If this condition is hard to follow, leave INH that function and set an On/Off condition putting the first RPM to ZERO.

For example, if your setup is hover ( normal ) at 1560 rpm and idle-1 at 1800 rpm, put on RPM selection : ZERO, 1560 normal , 1800 idle-1, you will need a three step switch on 8FG to program this.

Zero RPM is governor off.

Thanks.
If I understand you correctly, you are suggesting I use a 3 position switch instead of condition in the Governor menu (8fg)., maybe I have misunderstood.
What I would like, is to use condition for normal and idle1 headspeeds, but have a 2 postion switch to turn the governor on and off from the transmitter so that I can periodically check the engine is in tune and the curves still as close as possible.

No.

Let me explain a little bit more in my poor written english.

Futaba 8FG has 5 governor conditions that are set independently of regular flights condition on Tx.

Of course, you can relate governor conditions to a regular condition on your Tx, doing all the programing on the same switch.

For example, if you program sw B three flights condition, that is normal, idle-1 , idle-2 , You can also program on governor menu sw B three RPM, for normal zero RPM or off, idle-1 1560 rpm and for idle-2 1800 rpm. ( channel 7 )

So, if your are flying and need to put governor OFF, you just need to tap your sw B back to normal and governor will go off.

--------

Using On/off switch

If you check page 48, you can enable channel 8 that is mean to turn on and off your governor with a two pole switch.
Then, check your Tx that channel 8 is relate to a two pos. switch to see when is On and when is off.

You still can leave the RPM setting above , the same...

then, three RPM you already set. On normal condition the RPM is ZERO or OFF. On Idle-1 and Idle-2 you put your RPM of your desire.

sw F (two pole switch) you can program channel 8,and turn on and off your governor.

epilogue

You will have two choices for the governor to be On and off.
Via sw B RPM switch or via sw F, On/off switch.

The default channel on gy701 are listed form page 62.

Thank you again.
I'm afraid it is not your English that is the problem, it is my lack of comprehension when reading Futaba manuals.
Having never used a Governor before I was a little afraid of making a mistake with the Governor settings on the 8FG, that is why I wanted to be able to switch the Governor off completely.
I changed the On/OffSW setting on the 701 to On and attempted to program a switch to channel 8 (Governor2). This only resulted in the Governor being permanently switched off and INVALID coming up when I checked the On/OffSW menu setting.
I need to try again, but at least I got in the air! Another bonus is that the Revlimit sensor worked a I could see the RPM changing during idle on the 701 screen.

Got there in the end. Thanks.

There are still (at least) two things I'm not clear on.
One of which is what is MODE 2000/2500 in the Governor menu on the 8FG?

As I recall, This values are for "setting" both GV-1 and Tx showing the same RPM.
You will need to do the setting for 2000 and 2500.
So, when you change RPM on TX, GV-1 will show the same RPM.

You may choose to ignore if you are running settings on percentages.

By the way, I think this explanation is not on the original operating manual from 8FG.

Check 12Z instruction´s manual, instead.
