I know the "go-to" battery for the ulimate performance is the 65C TP family, but was wondering what other sized 4400 6S batts you guys have found at good prices and good performance. I fly big, smooth 3D with occassional smack, so a decent solid performaing battery would work for me, that is also reliable.

Also, is anyone making a 12S stick yet?

I have never wired two 6S packs yet, this would be my first 700 E-class heli.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Best,
Jeff

I just got one of these on a black Friday sale.

http://www.progressiverc.com/spyder...300mah-30c.html

At 5300 mah it may seem a little large. But its only 1493 grams. Two ThunderPower 4400 65c packs are 1410 grams. May be a little more once you add the stick pack heat shrink and required wire extensions.

My E7 is not in the air yet so I cannot give any performance impressions.

Regarding size.. I have tried both 5100mAh and 4400mAh, IMO the 4400s are much better matched with the E7. At least for my flight style.

I'm using Thunder Power 6s 4400mAH 65c currently.

Hyperion makes 35c 4500mah sticks. I use these in my TDR and will use in my E7. I also have a couple of Desire Power 12s sticks with the same rating. They are a couple years old and not split. They are very nice packs, but unfortunately it looks like the new cells aren't that good. The Hyperions are split and I use bullets on mine. Makes it easy to charge in series or split in parallel as 6s x 2 if I'm in a hurry. I talked with David at Progressive RC at IRCHA. He does alot of extensive testing of cells and said although pricey, the Hyperions and even more so TP, to be the best he's tested. He did some seminars at IRCHA a few years ago on lipos, charging and batteries in general and I found it quite informative. I recall reading somewhere that someone asked TP and they assembled 2 x 6s cells for them as sticks. I plan on doing the same next year when they have a 25% off sale again. I personally prefer the convenience of sticks.

4000's seem to be the size of choice. 5000's are just too heavy, even in a t700 in my opinion.

I had a good source for Hyperions, but my last 3 emails have gone unanswered. Not sure what's up with him. He was about $50 cheaper per pack than anywhere else I could find at the time. I would suggest just doing a search online and see what you come up with. Most vendors seem to sell at msrp though. If you do find something noteworthy, please post up. I use Hyperion 10s sticks to.

I did a quick search for Hyperion 12s sticks and found a place called
heli-heli.com Their price was pretty good and they offer a 10% discount for first time customers. Comes to about $268.00 per pack. Obviously not for everyone, but a very good price for these packs.

It would also be valuable to post your pack weight. Saying 4400 is just right and 5300 is too big can be difficult to interpret without the weight and C rating. For example, in my case the Spyder 5300 is only 83 grams heavier than the TP 4400.

Also have older Hyp 12s 4500 and frankly did not notice a difference with 5000's being a little heavier. 1450 vs 1600 gr.

Stick packs are not hard to make from 2x 6s. You can strap them on a piece of carbon or wire them permanently and shrinkwrap it.

How are you guys wiring up two 6S packs and also how are you charging? Do you charge the pack as one 12S or in series.
I ran 10S in one of my models and just charged the two packs independently.
But I've never made a 12S stick.

I do it like Chris (theNewGuy) does it. Below is a picture from his build thread. Two 6s packs with the series connector integrated into the ESC wires. There no chance of a connection mistake. Also since 12s charges are very rare, they still need to the charged as two 6s packs. Either in parallel, on a dual port charger or on two chargers. Plus the other thing I like about this arrangement is pack is never at 50v until its plugged into the model and the model is fired up. Its much safer having two 25v packs vs a 50v pack around.

More pic's from Chris' build thread can be found here https://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/p5492299/
