Maybe they are delayed to make last minute improvements. I'd gladly trade a few weeks delay for a fully vetted heli instead of a beta/prototype version.

From Facebook

"There is bad news and there is good news. The bad news is SAB announced a delay in production, and therefore can't meet the Dec 19th deadline as expected. The first shipment will be delayed until end of Jan 2012. The good news is the delivery kits will be at least double by Jan 2012, enough to cover for all current preorders and another around of new preorders. Thank you for your patience."

email from HeliDirect

Message From SAB:

Development of the SAB Goblin has revolved around one specific demand that means most to us – performance. With the SAB Goblin 700, we have developed a helicopter designed to surpass the demands of intense 3D pilots throughout the world, and to best meet such demands, we are doing everything we are able to make sure each and every Goblin kit is nothing short of exceptional.

To offer the best performance that can be attained, we have chosen a new gear technology that will allow the SAB Goblin to harness the most brutal brushless power systems available, allowing you to push the Goblin harder & faster than ever thought possible.

Due to this new gear technology that will be implemented, the 1st batch of SAB Goblin 700 kits will be pushed back till the end of January, whereas the 2nd batch of kits is still scheduled for the end of February.

We sincerely apologize for this delay, as we know each and every customer is eagerly waiting for this kit to arrive. We hope you will understand this delay, and we hope you will stand with us, knowing these improvements are truly worth the wait.

Thank you for your patience – SAB Helicopter Division

Herringbone?
Not without paying royalties

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

I don't believe Mikado has a patent on the herringbone gear. They have been around for many years before Mikado decided to try one. The biggest problem with a herringbone main gear is the manufacturing (machining) of the metal pinion that goes with them.

The most expensive part is the mold that makes the main gear and it is patented here in America the mold that is. If I was to build a herrigbone main gear mold it would be over 50k.

You can't patent a generic mold. Is there something different about the particular mold you are referring to that makes it patentable?

Correct, you cannot pattent such techs but you sure can (and they most probably have) pattent the use of such techs in certain apps eg the use of subject gears in rc helis.

Maybe they've gone all-belts ?

With great power comes great voltage times great current !

Herringbone gear "IN RC HELIS"

First in helis, we're not talking about submarines or your farm tractor here, anyhow continue on...

I myself don't care as long as it's not stright cut, big HP = big load = straight cut strip

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

Well might be alittle longer delay now
is currently a discussion here in this country, Seems that SAB has stolen the whole construction of the Goblin from a manufacturer in Austra called "Sitar" and the model is called "Simple"!!

All I see is a photo of a full bodied R/C heli. Does that make it a copy just because of that? What's inside?

Since when is a full body fuse a copy. It seems to me that all these lawsuits regarding copyrights/patents are nothing more than greed. It slows down new and creative products being introduced into the market. Let's face it. There is vitually nothing that hasn't been done before somewhere by somebody. They just didn't go running to the patent office with greed on their mind.

Here's a link to Sitar's homepage:

http://www.sitar-modellbau.at/

Click the German flag to continue, then click "Hubschrauber" on the left.

Only pics with fuselage there too, so it's hard to tell, but it don't look much like the Goblin to me...

"...stolen the whole construction..." seems like a bit of an overstatement..?

No, you got something really wrong. The only issue with some kind of patent (it's not a real patent) affects Germany and only Germany. That's the thing with the rigid head and it's flexible swash-grip connection without swash driver.
The Austrian company mentioned in a posting in a Italian forum by an SAB rep isn't Sitar and there's no problem with them, nothing was "stolen".
