I just bought a used Mongoose and don't like the colors. It had an all red canopy with aerial photo company's name on it. So I sanded it down and have been looking for ideas to paint it.

The tail boom is an ugly color of light green. Not bad colors for Christmas I guess, but I want this bird to be mine and look good because I plan to us it for aerial photography as soon as I can get it set up.

I came across the photo at the top and love the white tail boom, skids and mostly white canopy. I photo shopped it to how I plan to paint my old beater canopy.

I have always liked the blue and white color combination since my first T-REX 450 SE the first RC helicopter I was successfully able to fly. Therefore, the blue and amber combination is perfect to my taste. I also made the black painted canopy a bit biggerr because to me the normal canopy size looks too small for the large size of the AIRSTAR canopy. It gives it a very clean, crisp look, but Does anyone know if AIRSTAR can custom paint skids and tail boom. From their website, they only have colors like black, red, orange etc., but not white.

I like the metal lower clearance skids because it will still fit under my truck's tonneau cover.

Let me know what you think. Any tips or advice are greatly appreciated.

The second photo shows the navigation lights I will add to the front of the skids... like my old Vario Benzin Acrobatics.

If you don't want to do it yourself, Scott at Ace Helis can do a nice custom paint job on any helicopter part you want painted.

AtTheCross,

Is that your copter? I just love the clean sophisticated look of the white, which is different from the common black or dark gray tail booms and skids.

Blue is my favorite color... and I love the combination of a certain shade of yellow. Of course, yours is still a very nice looking copter. The other bird has a white tail boom.

Who did your paint work? Thanks.

There is just something I really like about this color combo. I guess the yellow and blue just perfectly compliment the other.

I just learned something new the other day. I was trying my first hovering autorotation with the AirStar Mongoose and when I flipped throttle hold it slammed down instantly as though it was in negative pitch.

Fortunately the skids protected the heli from any damage. I had to ground it til I figured out what was wrong. I asked my rc heli mentor Michael if he could look at my radio settings and he quickly found the culprit.

With the pitch curves, I only knew about setting Normal, Stunt1 and Stunt2, but did NOT know you had to set Hold.

The Hold setting was still on factory, linear setting from 0 to 100%. Therefore, at mid stick, instead of being at 64%, it instantly went down to 50% creating either a zero pitch condition, or a negative pitch condition.

I haven't had a chance to fly it since getting the radio adjusted, but am hoping it will float down nicely with those 850 mm rotor blades, for a very nice autorotation. Wish me luck.
